A picture of and quote by Professor Willem Kuyken, Director of the Oxford Mindfulness Research Centre, and Sir John Ritblat Family Foundation Professor of Mindfulness and Psychological Science. It reads: "This transformative gift from Daria and Dmitri Bukhman will help us to achieve our vision of a world without the devastating effects of depression, where people enjoy mental health and can flourish. By bringing together the very best of modern psychology and ancient wisdom, we can equip people, communities and organisations to meet the challenges of the 21st century."

Mentally “stepping back” allows for a broader perspective and offers space for more flexible response patterns.
This new paper found that decentering relates to mental health and wellbeing in adolescence, but did not correlate with social cognition or affective executive control.

… this HOPE isn’t the idle optimist
That sits on stumps plucking petals.
Instead, we are getting our hands dirty
And planting the seeds ourselves.

… every life on this planet
Has its own narrative
Worthy and deserving ...

Systematic and meta-analytic reviews are supposed to be at the top of the evidence hierarchy. But are they? Really interesting perspective, from Holly Else. The article features Andreas Voldstad @OMC_mindfulness @OxPsychiatry reflecting on his recent review.

‘Systematic reviews’ that aim to extract broad conclusions from many studies are in peril

We showed that MBCT was particularly effective for individuals with more severe histories of depression. These findings take further our work showing the potential for MBCT to offer a tailored, effective alternative to maintenance antidepressant medication.

We explored "how" mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) supports people with recurrent depression, examining who benefits most. We found MBCT helps reduce depressive symptoms when people learn the mindfulness skills that help them break free from unhelpful patterns of thought & emotion.

Our new paper on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (#MBCT) for #depression suggests learning #mindfulness skills mediates MBCT’s effects.
Especially for those with more severe depression.

These are latent profiles for those who benefit most from MBCT or maintenance antidepressants
Profile 1 = less severe history of depression.
Profile 2 = more severe history of depression. This shows the variety of changes in depressive symptoms through MBCT and maintenance antidepressant treatment.
