for fun, I’m going to try to post one piece of classical music that has spooky vibes for each day of October—and to not use only pieces by Chopin, Scriabin, or Ravel

Day 1: Chopin’s Nocturne in G Minor, op.15/3
G minor, op. 15, n? 3

and experiencing some slippage of selfhood

Day 12: Bach, Sarabande from the Sixth English Suite

maybe a stretch to call this “spooky,” but let yourself get into this headspace of solitude and pensiveness. contemplate the existential doubt being evoked. Bach can be spooky, specially if you’re stuck on an island off the coast of Sweden—

my best guess is a fungus that in its early stages looks like cotton
winteron.bsky.social
during a walk in the woods yesterday, 9yo and I spotted various instances of what looked like pieces of cotton strewn around on the ground, often tangled in leaves and twigs (ex in photo below). I’m assuming it isn’t actually cotton bolls, but what am I seeing?

oops, missed day 11!! here it is: Berg, WOZZECK, act 3, scene 4:

the whole opera is an expressionist, macabre masterpiece, but this scene: 👌

not sure if I’ve ever seen a rosemary bagel! the idea of it doesn’t particularly offend me.

the “Italian-esque” bagels I object to have various herbs, bits of sun-dried tomato, etc.—like focaccia but in a ring shape
etc.like

sesame seed bagels are morally right!

lol I need to decompress from the work week
winteron.bsky.social
this is a moralism rooted solely in humanism and cultural tradition—no deities needed! respecting the integrity of culinary traditions is a moral act! fight me!

I too am an agnostic atheist! my mom is a gentile, and I was never bar mitzvahed—so technically I’m not a Jew. but I identify with many aspects of the culture. and everyone has always assumed I’m Jewish anyway (the NY accent, the looks, the demeanor), and they’re not *wrong*

Day 10: Sibelius, Tapiola

his last major composition, and he chose to go out on a decidedly dark note. respect

cinnamon-raisin is borderline. not a sin, but not quite righteous either
winteron.bsky.social
Italian-esque seasonings and bagels do not belong together.

and a bagel is not simply any variety of baked dough shaped like a ring.
winteron.bsky.social
cinnamon-sugar, blueberry, Italian herb, cheddar—these are goyische bagels and they’re morally wrong.

just as sweet grits are morally wrong.

just as quickly cooked collards are morally wrong.

sweet flavors and bagels do not belong together.

HERE FOR BAGEL DISCOURSE

there are right ways to make and consume bagels. and then there are wrong ways.

bagels are one of the few foods I will unapologetically get moralistic about.
