I’m reading a cozy about a bookshop murder and the employees are talking about the DREADED Reader’s Digest condensed books.

Ugh. Get off your high horse, readers. RD also printed full-length books AND a magazine that people who didn’t normally read used to get into the hobby you claim to love.
I’m not above admitting that it could be trauma, increasing pessimism, or just plain reading too much into it, but did anyone else get the vibe that Black River Orchard was about a certain administration’s poisoning of society?

I really hope this isn’t just me.

I’m reading Flowers in the Attic because I remember always being curious about these weird paperbacks with cut-out windows.

Y’all. For such a soap opera tone, it gets… memorable VERY quickly.
What if Stephen King wrote a 1990s Disney sports movie?

This is what it would be. You don’t HAVE to like baseball to get sucked into the drama, but buddy, it wouldn’t hurt.

Even if the CB change wasn’t distraction, they’ve been planning a redesign for at least a year to try to modernize and appeal to a younger audience.

When I started reading the outrage, I was thinking “seriously, guys? I don’t even like CB and I knew this was coming. You’re obviously not huge fans.”
I’m just over here (in Germany) hoping for a Roger pin. Ideally with two whatchacallits so it can stay straight on jackets/guitar straps/etc.
I’d rather have sloppy journalism like NPR than hurtful propaganda like yours.
I have a Kindle and love it when I’m traveling for work but when I’m at home I prefer paper. I can justify paying to ship good books, but not bad, unknown, or even mediocre books.

Which will results in a library that is 100% killer (for me).

Should wind up being pretty cool.
I suspect it grossed so much because it was a bait and switch and not enough suits recognize this. They’ll be hurt by this hubris, the movie-going public will be blamed, and Paramount will cut even more from their catalog to make up the difference.
For those who haven’t watched my latest YT video, I think I’m going to move to New Zealand and, because moving is pricey, I have to tackle my substantial TBR to make sure I don’t pay crazy money to bring shitty books with me.

So far I’m about 3 books down. Only 200 or so to go.

If this is true, more people need to know they’re unlovable or hell is negated by being oblivious. Most of these assholes think they’re the heroes of their own stories and just misunderstood.

Truly an underrated tale not of bureaucracy but rather a cautionary tale about the toxic mixture of playing martyr and learned helplessness.

It’s a good book, people.

Even if @vslaw.bsky.social isn’t super active here, I will never stop mentioning her fantastic writing. Maybe others will listen and check her out because she’s great.
I’d love to know what you think when you finish it!
If you’re looking for atmosphere and a short read, this is a good one.

But if you’re looking for spooky fall vibes, you really cant do better than @chuckwendig.bsky.social ‘s “Black River Orchard.” I’m about a hundred pages from finishing it and it’s the most unsettling book I’ve ever read.
This centers around a man in black giving a little girl a magic box telling her she’s now the box’s custodian and the story’s so short I don’t want to spoil any more beyond saying hijinks ensue. None are horror, though. Very coming-of-age stuff.
If you’re interested in a slightly longer little rant on the book, there’s a link to my Pixelfed page, but it’s an interesting trilogy built around King and Chizmar wanting to write together. The first one is good, I think the second is better, and the third… finishes the series.
The Blob was a perfect remake already.

Have we tried just re-releasing movies? I don’t mean a one-night run but a short marketing campaign, followed by weeks in theaters nationwide, followed by a Blu-ray/4K/UHD home release?

Because I would go see classics like this again and buy it as well.
Hey hey! I made a new video where I talk about how I have to actually read my TBR to verify if the books are good enough to bring with me when I have to move! Check it out!
