An army veteran from Wrexham will join 10,000 others from the veteran community at the Cenotaph Parade in London on Sunday, 9 November. Chris Jones, 55, has been invited to be part of the Help for Heroes delegation, which will see nearly 50 veterans, along with their carers and support staff, marching to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Jon, who wrote the score, and Grahame, who penned the words, said they both had “shivers down their spines” when they heard they had made the final shortlist for the 2025 Ivors Classical Awards – the Oscars of the composing world.

Coleg Cambria is playing a key role in a Wales-wide initiative to tackle misogyny and promote respectful relationships across the Further Education (FE) sector. Funded through the Taith Pathway 2 Programme and coordinated by ColegauCymru, the project unites colleges from across Wales and Canada to share expertise and develop strategies to prevent and challenge harmful behaviours. It builds on the findings of Estyn’s 2023 report Peer-on-peer sexual harassment among 16 to 18-year-old learners in further education, which called for greater focus on education around respect, equality, and healthy relationships. Cambria’s Fairness and Belonging Lead Alice Churm has been at the forefront of the college’s involvement, leading on key elements of the partnership and helping to drive conversations about inclusion and positive behaviour among learners and staff.

The Steve Morgan Foundation and the Wrexham AFC Foundation have announced a new three-year partnership to scale up a community-based programme to tackle anti-social behaviour, increase employment prospects, and improve declining youth facilities. Founded in 2001 by entrepreneur and philanthropist, Steve Morgan CBE, the Foundation provides funding, support, expertise and best practice to not-for-profit organisations and has helped to improve the quality of life for millions of people. It has pledged to invest £300,000 in Wrexham AFC Foundation over the next three years, enabling it to expand its Street Dragons and Young Leaders programmes, invest in community pitch regeneration, and create safer spaces for young people to thrive.

With Halloween just days away, North Wales Police is encouraging those heading out to enjoy the spooky celebrations to be mindful and respectful of others. The message follows evening patrols in Gwersyllt, where officers praised residents for their Halloween displays but urged people to remember that not everyone celebrates the occasion. The officer added that the community spirit on show was “fantastic,” and encouraged others to share their own spooky decorations responsibly. A spokesperson for NWP Wrexham Rural said: "It's spooky season and the clocks have gone back and the darker nights have returned.

Rhug Estate in Denbighshire has confirmed there is no outbreak of avian influenza (bird flu) on its premises, despite reports of cases in the local area. As a precaution, the estate has temporarily closed its two farm walks to protect staff, visitors and livestock. The closures will remain in place until further notice. In a statement, Rhug Estate said: “At Rhug Estate, we’re committed to the health and welfare of our livestock, local communities, and the environment. "Recently, we have been made aware of a potential outbreak of Avian Influenza (bird flu) in our locality.

North Wales Police dogs are taking centre stage in a new 2026 charity calendar launched to raise funds for retired police dogs. The calendar has been created by Paws Off Duty, a charity founded in 2015 by PC Jackie Edwards of North Wales Police. The organisation helps pay for vet and welfare costs for dogs after they retire from service.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board says simple steps like washing or sanitising hands when entering and leaving wards can make a big difference in protecting vulnerable patients and easing pressure on hospitals during the colder months. The reminder comes as hospitals across the region prepare for increased winter pressures, with rising cases of flu and COVID-19 putting added strain on services.

The item, which is specially designed for poolside and aquatic use, was gifted to Plas Macoc Leisure Centre after a fundraising effort by Josie Valentine, who works with some of the facility's disabled customers. The Groves is still sat vacant without a purpose, according to the latest update from Wrexham Council. Wrexham.com asked for an update about the Groves having been told by multiple councillors that a private meeting that had the building on the agenda had allegedly heard one councillor state - twice - that a solution would be to "give the coordinates to Putin to sort it".

A Lead councillor has defended proposed pay rises - noting the work that some councillors put in for the job. The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru determines the remuneration payable by councils to their elected members and co-opted members. The Commission’s remit includes Principal Councils, National Park Authorities, Fire and Rescue Authorities and Community and Town Councils in Wales. As Wrexham.com reported they recently published their Draft Annual Remuneration Report 2026-2027 which proposes that councillors - some with a basic salary and others with enhanced pay due to roles as Chairs, Leadership roles and the like…

More than 200,000 people across Wales – including almost 90,000 children – have received emergency fuel support as part of a campaign to help families heat their homes this winter. The assistance comes through the Fuel Bank Foundation, which has been given £6.9 million in Welsh Government funding since 2022, with another £600,000 committed for 2025–26. The support includes fuel vouchers, top-ups for prepayment meters, and deliveries of heating fuel to off-grid households.

The greyhound racing industry has hit back at plans to ban the sport in Wales, claiming data shows deaths have “more than halved” and injuries saw a “significant drop” last year. Mark Bird, chief executive of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), accused animal welfare charities of citing “inaccurate, historic or even misleading” data to support the ban. The Welsh Government has introduced a draft law to ban greyhound racing, leaving Wales’ last remaining track – the Valley Greyhound Stadium in Ystrad Mynach – facing closure.

GPs will continue to be blocked from prescribing new weight-loss drugs by the Welsh Government because NHS Wales is not ready for the huge demand. Around 186,000 people in Wales are estimated to be eligible for tirzepatide (Mounjaro) alone, which has been approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for managing obesity. But because the Welsh NHS cannot handle this level of demand, the rollout is being paused while a new “clinical pathway” is developed to build capacity.
