It's been my experience that Talking to Americans (I miss Rick Mercer's show) about how our universal healthcare system works is really frustrating because they refuse to imagine or comprehend it. They've been brainwashed to pay up & accept medical debt when the inevitable claim denials come back.

You are really not qualified to talk about how Canada's universal health care system works, Deb. You are frustratingly not informed. We don't have to worry about insurance fraud scams because everyone who can prove that they live here qualifies for care. It's not like a Costco membership card.

None of that is necessary under universal health care. It's not like a Netflix or Costco membership. If you're a citizen, you get a health card. You have a health card, you get health care. I don't think YOU are someone who should be discussing universal health care, Deb, especially about Canada's.

I just read an article about a convict facility called Camp Work Ethic in Nebraska moving it's detainees elsewhere in order to over-populate it with detained migrants. The facility can hold 185 ppl, but they plan to double that number. Ppl who have not committed a crime!! It'll be you & your kids.

Well, I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful advice from Canadians, but you should also check the Gov't of Canada website & then your chosen province's website as well. When I moved from BC back to Ontario, I had to wait 3 months before my OHIP kicked in. I purchased an inexpensive 3 month coverage.

If you don't have $ you get told it's a year wait & you generally get called in a few months on a cancelation. If you need life saving or urgent treatment, you get the care you need, as long as your province hasn't shut your hospitals down or failed to hire enough staff. It's not 2-tiered at all 2/2

That's bullshit, sorry! I don't know what lived experiences you have with Canadian health care Deb but I have plenty, past & current. The whole thing with the bum knee/shoulder surgery wait times is a crock of shit. If you have money you can go private or to another country & pay out of pocket. 1/2

So many ppl mention wanting to come to 🇨🇦 before they do it they should learn that while 🇨🇦 has universal health care, each province operates their health care differently. Even if traveling between provinces it is recommended to get out of province insurance. There's also wait periods when you move.
