I never made a pinned introduction post, so here it is! Hello! 👋

I post about my interests here (prehistory, art, video games, animals, etc).

I enjoy drawing animals and make fandom fanart.
Currently writing a prehistoric graphic novel about Neanderthals.
Majored in Anthropology.

Inktober Day 12: Shredded.

Butchering a young buck.

Yes I watched multiple videos of how wild game are butchered on the spot 🫣.
It can be a little hard to watch but I surprisingly learned a lot of anatomy.

I didn't draw the deer too detailed so it wouldn't be graphic 😂.

Inktober Day 11: Sting.

Red ochre is used by people as a sunscreen and insect repellant.

Remnants of red ochre paste have been found in Neanderthal sites as well. Were they used for the same purpose?
I'm sure they didn't want pesky insect bites too!

Linktober 2025 Day 10: Tunic

Link from Tears of the Kingdom sits at the edge of a sky island. He is adjusting his archaic tunic over his lap while the damaged master sword rests on his legs.

Inktober Day 10: Sweep

Poor squirrel caught in a flood 😨

When I read "Earth's Children" series, there were multiple mentions of floods at the beginning of spring due to a mix of snowmelt and rain. So, it was the first thing I thought of for the prompt.

Junar has one surviving sister, Jaya. There are two deceased siblings between them.
This created an age gap, but they are still very close. ❤️ They have a strong bond.
Junar's journey is motivated by her. Their relationship is the core of the story.

I couldn't find anything conclusive about age of first pregnancy in prehistory, let alone Neanderthals, but it's most likely late teens, so that's how I aged them.
That makes grandparents 30s-40s at the start of the story. Great-grandparents 40s-50s.

Photo blurred for spoilers/privacy :P

I was refining the kinship diagram of my OCs 🫢
Up to 4 generations, which is where we have the eldest family member.
Generally speaking, most people in the family are rather young.
In the beginning of the story, Junar and his cousins are around 10 years old. Parents in their late 20s at this point.
Papers strewn about of the characters' kinship ties. Blurred for privacy (and spoilers!!!!!!!!!)

Quick #FossilFriday #paleoart post: a 2025 redo of my 2019 take on the giant #deer Megaloceros. Palaeolithic art captures some aspects of Megaloceros appearance but the details are not unambiguous: when is a line across a body a stripe, when is it a boundary between colour regions?
Three Megaloceros, a stag, doe and fawn, in front of an ice age landscape, painted in 2025. The bodies of the adults have large blocks of colour, without prominent stripes. Three Megaloceros, a stag, doe and fawn, in front of an ice age landscape, painted in 2019. The body of the stag has a dark stripe extending from the shoulder to the thigh.

Inktober Day 9: Heavy

After a mammoth is taken down... How is it transported? Must be a very arduous task. They'd have to divide it into manageable pieces and carry it towards their headquarters.

I used a new brush pen. Sakura Pigma Brush. I'm still rusty with it. I need more practice!

finally using the kinship diagram I learnt in my anthropology degree :P

Well, pretty much all of them are only actively present in the story within the first three chapters, most of them don't even have speaking lines 🫣 I need to prioritize the characters who move the story forward.
But they still need to be there. Their existence is important.

Time to talk about my imaginary Neanderthal family:
Junar is part of a family of 19. All siblings and cousins and second-cousins.
It's been both exhausting and fun making their family tree 😆
I don't have many pictures saved of my art of the other characters, so I'll just share this one that I have.

Inktober Day 8: Reckless.

Featuring my favorite duo, Tam and Kujo!

Caving as it is now with helmets and headlamps is dangerous. How was it when people of prehistoric times did it? Completely reckless behavior in my opinion 😵 how did they keep their torches or lamps lit? Go in the dark? HOW?

Inktober Day 7: Starfish

After having been to the beach this year, I have three notes about it:
1. The sand is hot and sticks everywhere (Anakin was right)
2. There are also a lot of seaweed, and they get tangled in your feet
3. So many collectables by the shore!!!!

True. And I thought I heard the Pikmin theme in there too.

It's not clear what the intention of this is. An animation test? A teaser of some sort?

Oh that's awesome! Thank you for sharing!
