Baby sci commer who's really on one about dying and death care. Oh I'm also a radiation therapist and a few other things.

I keep scribbling my Sharpie S Gel in a futile effort to make it work. I'm honestly in shock. This is truly a sign that they are the best pens in the world - a rare find for a leftie!

Feels wrong throwing it away...
HOLD. UP.
I didn't think it could be done, but it finally happened:

I used all the ink in a pen before I got bored and abandoned it for something better.

The WHOLE PEN!
Mmmmmmm yeeaah I might have to actually cook breakfast tomorrow now
Had to look up herbes de provence.... I'm not much of a cook so that *sounds* like it would be a simple dish but it's probably one of those more-than-meets-the-eye things that I'm betting she perfected!
I have two cats and a dog.

Guess which one walked into the room with a freshly dead mouse.
American here, feeling down, and I'm equally embarrassed and absolutely delighted at the accuracy of this 😬😆
Death quote of the day:
"My God, I just remembered that we die." - Clarice Lispector

Found that at the beginning of the book Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar, highly recommend

Do you deliver? Maybe I'll just come to you 🍴
Peak ADHD: in December I preordered Alex Partridge's book on ADHD. Had to preorder because I NEED IT IMMEDIATELY and WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE MONTH?!

I forgot I had it till just now. Two months later. Not a letter has been read. Fully erased from my brain.

I should probably read that now.
Nothing delights me more than science/tech speak for things.

Similar to the SpaceX Starship, I too occasionally experience "rapid unscheduled disassembly."
But yeah I suppose, like you said, if that particular tradition is where the comfort comes from, it would be just as... fulfilling? Is that the word I want? I guess that works haha
Thanks so much! That makes sense.
I guess I'm seeing my own bias - I've only been to pretty hands-off traditional Catholic funerals and occasional burials that seemed so distant. Then I see natural where everyone is participating and it looks so comforting!

Question for @imperi.bsky.social or any death/grief/psych/sociology pro:

One benefit always noted for mourners with natural burial is the ability to participate. Is there research being done on the potential grief/emotional effects of natural vs conventional funerals?

This is your reminder that you too can star as Yorrick in the afterlife if you have clear instructions for your posthumous care, and an executor that gets you 💀 Talk to your friendly neighbourhood Death Doula to help you achieve your posthumous acting dreams! #deathsky #deathdoula
So cool! Aspirin for mets, mRNA vaccines for pancreatic cancer - awesome stuff coming for cancer
Aspirin may enhance the immune response against cancer metastasis in mice, according to research published in Nature. The authors suggest that the findings could aid the development of effective anti-metastatic immunotherapies. https://go.nature.com/3F3GWOB 🧪
What is this hypnotic ball of light that I'm going to stare at for the next 20 minutes???
This is the cutest 🤩
And once again I'm lamenting the fact that I'm on the opposite side of the state from you and the cool stuff you do
My stomach went from clenched to laughing in 0.85 seconds
These parents are THE BEST. The girl's issue was pretty serious and they talked about it without shame or fear, as if they were at their PCP for a sore throat and "lately you've been coughing." And then the joke! I wanted to hug them all 🖤
Yesterday while checking in for my psych appointment there was a family of 4 - mom, dad, 2 daughters about 7 and 10. I overheard:
10: what are we doing again?
Mom: we're here to talk about how lately you [issue]
Dad in a low, serious tone: but remember, we DON'T. Talk. About. BRUNO.
So many scientific studies sound ridiculous and people make fun of them until the products of the chain reaction from those studies becomes a staple in society that those same people either don't know about or just assume popped magically into existence.
Slow but working for me. I'm in PA, USA, using Google Chrome on my phone. Hopefully the issue gets fixed!
Crochet and cadavers - great name for a podcast. Dibs!
Also works for a Miss Marple knockoff series.
And it works for this afternoon, working a project and learning death care practices 🖤
Could "meet" work? Coming together but not fully touching?
I don't know if that applies but it *feels* right 😆
Particle physics and I.... Well, we don't touch. Or meet. I try but I can never fully grasp the intricacies so I am probably way off!
Ugh that's got to be so so difficult in an already (I'm assuming) emotionally draining profession. Good luck with all of that!! Hopefully it changes soon.

Thanks! I'm totally keeping you in mind if I need to pester someone for info or varied perspective later on 😁 if you're up for it, that is
I love seeing the shift from that pushy pricey aspect toward people just not having it. Sucks people then associate the entire profession with the old ways!
This is why I'm writing my book - show what's available, how it works, and it's not all evil 😆 I'm an outsider, I love hearing your experience!
