Which is exactly why you have politicians, who you elect on the basis that you trust the one you're voting for to make decisions on your behalf.

All laws can be 'got around'. However, if you do that, and something serious happens (which the law was designed to prevent) you face consequences...

It's about being accountable. If you have given your child access to Instagram, and harm comes to them as a result, you could be in serious trouble.
If a platform allows your child to access it (without taking reasonable precautions) and your child is harmed, they will be in serious trouble.

Parents 'getting around it' equals 'parents being aware of the platforms their children are engaging on'.
Most internet restrictions - proposed or current - can be 'got around'.
That doesn't mean they haven't achieved their intention.

I had to scrap the idea for a sequel when my main female character refused point blank to give up her daughter. Nothing I could do would persuade her....

There's a lovely story about Dostoevsky coming into a room after a stint of writing and saying, "Natasha's just got married. I wasn't expecting that..."

That's two Liberal Senators now who have shared their gems of wisdom with Lower House MPs....who know more about getting elected than they do...

'Hume....added the Liberals should "focus on not the seats that we hold but the 33 seats we need to win".'

Hume advocating that MPs should neglect their seats? Great strategy...

...once the Liberals lose balance of power in the Senate, there will be no effective Opposition. Labor will be dominate in the HoR and - at the very least - be able to cobble together whatever alliances it needs in the Senate.
This is very concerning - but hey, the duopoly will be gone!

Whilst I'm all for the Liberals collapsing - and think their position makes any real resurgence unlikely - there needs to be voices in Parliament who are simultaneously outside the government and have the power to force change.
Only have that in the Senate atm & that will change.

Those advocating for the collapse of the duopoly were not aiming at creating an effectively one party state, yet that seems to be where we are heading.

It doesn't matter how diverse the voices are on the other side, if they're not operating as a cohesive Opposition, they're irrelevant.

'"What we have seen is the demise of the dominance of the duopoly. That's absolutely certain, that's gone."

True to a point. What we've seen is one half of the duopoly collapsing, which has left the other half without true Opposition.

Why has support for One Nation surged since the election, and will it last?
Polling has support for One Nation somewhere between 10 and 14 per cent, much higher than during the federal election.

I was astonished when I heard he was 'the voice' of their campaign.
Scarcely seems someone with the finger of the pulse of everyday Australia.

'...some conservatives.. could reclaim votes lost to right-wing parties such as One Nation and United Australia Party, and succeed in regional Australia.'

Regional Australia is not where the Liberals need to succeed.

Senior conservative cautions Liberals quietly pushing to split the party
In a major address to his party, James Paterson says "marginal" voices agitating for the Liberal party to split must be kept on the sidelines, cautioning it would spell "disaster".

The 'proper Teals' don't seem to do State campaigns, which ignores the fact that much of the work on climate change - supposedly the driving issue of Climate200 - has been done at State level.

Which is why raw numbers for income shouldn't be used as a metric. Poverty is far more complex than how much money you get each week.
For example, my disabled mother would rank as in poverty because of the pension - but she has a $40k home care package.
zeddog.bsky.social
Obviously, neither does the poverty report.
Was in a carload of people the other day, heard a similar report on the radio, we all went 'So we're all poor?" and were completely taken aback by the idea.

He is the ultimate example of an idiot getting lucky.
zeddog.bsky.social
Hmmm...so by deliberately choosing to earn less than what reports say the poverty line is, I've chosen to live in poverty?
I've never lived more comfortably in my life...

If the Teals ran serious campaigns at state level, the Vic Libs would probably disappear.

Labor has to get any legislation through the Senate. It doesn't matter how feeble the Opposition is, if the Greens don't back legislation, the Opposition gets to decide if something becomes law or not. #auspol

I find a certain amount of irony that Tony Abbott, who was born in the UK, educated at Oxford, and sits on several overseas boards, criticises 'recent migrants' as belonging to 'Hotel Australia' because they maintain connections overseas.... #auspol
