Enjoy the weather today, because BIG changes are on the way as our first big storm of the season is approaching. By as soon as tomorrow, widespread rain will move across the entire Bay Area, bringing .5"-1.5". Pockets of heavy downpours and thunderstorms will create Flash Flooding concerns.

‼️PSA: CLEAN OUT YOUR GUTTERS/DRAINS THIS WEEKEND‼️

The Bay Area's first big storm of the season is approaching...and it's been a while, so make sure to clean out your gutters/drains this weekend while it's quiet! And secure all Halloween decorations so they don't blow away! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Will the remnants of a TYPHOON will be hitting the West Coast?! Well...the simple answer is no. Typhoon Halong in the Central Pacific is sending a wave of energy that will allow our West Coast storm to strengthen and travel farther south than it would have without the typhoon. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Planning on heading to San Francisco/areas by the Bay for Fleet Week?! Luckily, Mother Nature timed out our weather perfectly, with dry and mild conditions this weekend. Enjoy the sunshine while you can, because widespread rain will return starting Monday next week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

RAIN!

Light showers will move over the North Bay/coast early tomorrow. More rain moves in Friday, but models are continuing to lower rainfall totals for the Bay. The third, and strongest, storm will bring widespread rain starting early next week...stay tuned for more details. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Temperatures will be 5-15° cooler tomorrow, with 25-35 mph wind gusts, cloudier skies, and maybe a few sprinkles along the coast. More wet weather arrives early Thursday, again Friday evening, and AGAIN next week. Get ready for an active weather pattern over the next week or so. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Northeastern US - I hope you enjoyed the warm weather today because BIG changes are on the way as a cold front brings some rain overnight and into tomorrow morning. By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will be 10-30° cooler...sweater weather is just around the corner!🎃🍂 @kpixtv.bsky.social

If you haven't had the chance to head to the coast over the past few weeks/months, tomorrow is your day to do it! Monday afternoon will be filled with sunshine and warmth, with 70s from Pacifica down to Santa Cruz and Monterey. Enjoy it before cooler, cloudier, and windier weather arrives...

Did September seem strangely rainy across the Bay Area? Well, it was! Now that it's October, let's take a look back...

Downtown SF picked up .11" of rain - that's not a lot, but 5 days of measurable rainfall is the most number of rainy days in September since 1989. @kpixtv.bsky.social

How much rain has fallen this week? There was a stark cutoff between .5"+ of rainfall in the North Bay to the .01-.1" across the rest of the Bay Area.

A few more light showers are possible, especially south/east bay, into early tomorrow. Drier/warmer weather arrives just in time for the weekend!

Showers across the North Bay tonight will fizzle out as they move south/east. A few sprinkles will arrive early Wednesday before a line of more widespread rain moves from west to east late morning through the afternoon. Drier and warmer weather pushes in later this week! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Imelda will NOT be making a US landfall👏 It will still be high rip currents and surf through the late week, but it could've been a LOT worse if the storm didn't take a sharp right turn.

It's SO cool to see the way Imelda and Humberto have/will interact with each other! @kpixtv.bsky.social

When is it going to rain in the Bay??? There are two main chances...

The first is tonight, as a weak line of rain moves south and quickly fizzles out. The second is late Tuesday into Wednesday - this will be the better potential to see more widespread, wetting rainfall. @kpixtv.bsky.social

Did you hear?! It's time to get ready for more rain, Bay Area!

Here's what to expect:
Sun: Increasing clouds, but dry
Mon: Light drizzle early, line of rain from late afternoon - late night
Tue: Break in the activity
Wed: Heavier and more widespread rain likely

The big changes we've been talking about all week have arrived! Moisture from Mario will move across California over the next 48 hours, bringing more clouds, 5-15° cooler highs, and wet weather. Rain will move from south to north across the Bay late Thursday into Friday. @kpixtv.bsky.social
zoemintz.bsky.social
SoCal will get the heaviest rain tonight and into early tomorrow morning - up to 2". Scattered storms will move over the Sierra Thursday afternoon, bringing dry lightning/wildfire concern. Moisture will then move over the Bay Area/Central Valley late Thursday into Friday. @kpixtv.bsky.social

My goodness I miss the skies in Nee Mexico. Thank you for sharing this stunning shot!!!😍

After one more day of heat, highs will come crashing down Thursday across the Bay Area as moisture from 'Mario' moves up the West Coast.

The certain: it's going to be cooler and cloudy starting Thursday.

The uncertain: the exact path of the storm and where the rain will fall @kpixtv.bsky.social

Have the Northern Lights been more active over the past year?

Yes - because it's the peak of this solar cycle, when the sun creates the most energy. Explosions on the sun can reach Earth, interacting with the atmosphere/magnetic field, and creating the Northern Lights! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Get ready for a wild week of weather, Bay Area...

A heat wave begins tomorrow and continues through midweek with upper 90s to near 100° inland, low 90s by the Bay, and 70s/80s by the coast. By Thursday, temperatures will drop ~10° as tropical moisture from Mario moves overhead. @kpixtv.bsky.social
zoemintz.bsky.social
BIG changes on the way over the next 7 days across the Bay...

Enjoy the seasonable weather this weekend, because starting Monday, the heat will be ON! Expect high 90s to near 100° inland, upper 80s by the bay, and mid to high 70s along the coast basically all next week... @kpixtv.bsky.social

How much rain did the Bay Area see this week?!

Anywhere from .25-.5" fell over the mountains- but even the San Jose Airport observed nearly half an inch of rain just yesterday! Moisture is always welcome this time of year, decreasing the normally heightened fire danger. @kpixtv.bsky.social
zoemintz.bsky.social
Pacific hurricane season has been a LOT more active than Atlantic...in fact, there is a potential 13th named storm brewing, while the Atlantic has only had 6 named storms and there is NO 7th on the horizon! Great news during what is normally the peak of Atlantic season.. @kpixtv.bsky.social
zoemintz.bsky.social
The lenticular clouds over the Bay Area yesterday were AWESOME🤩

These happen when moist, strong upper level winds are forced up by mountains - the air rises to, it cools and condenses to form a cloud, which then evaporates as the air falls, making the cloud appear to hover in place!
