To absent friends and loved ones.
I spent my entire day in the ED with the boyfriend, who has some kind of affliction that is making him incapable of keeping fluids down. He has been admitted. I'm home. He flew here to visit me for this weekend and I feel like it's my fault.

Well, if it's viral, I'll find out soon enough.
Death is so taboo in the modern society, and if it wasn't for this practice plus the Death Positive Movement, I don't know how I would have managed Jeff's passing. More folks should celebrate Allhallowtide as it was intended. This is my All Saints setup. Tomorrow I recombobulate for All Souls. (fin)
This is not Halloween, this is something far more sacred, and you don't have to be religious to experience it or how it helps grief. All Souls Day doesn't exist in a vacuum, it's just the Roman Church's practice. (4)
After being invited by folks we met at the festival in San Diego to process with the Mexica/Aztec to the community ofrenda, I was never so touched in my life. My late husband and I were given marigolds to put on the unmarked graves, and we do so with honor. (3)
I've come into my own with this since I lost my husband. I've always loved the idea of All Souls and felt that it needed to be more widely practiced. I don't go to church anymore, but I still pick up novena candles because Catholic aesthetic doesn't leave when the guilt does. (2)
I first really experienced Dia de los Muertos when I lived in San Diego. The practices weren't alien to me, because All Saints/All Souls is very popular in Mediterranean cultures as well, and growing up Catholic, we always had an ofrenda-adjacent practice. (1)
Happy All Saints to people who know Halloween is 3 days long, and happy half price candy day to the rest of you already putting up Christmas decorations.
I LOVE this app.
With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.
I wish that the organizations I am apart of were not on Facebook, I really need to get off of that cesspit. I post a lot, but I can post here just as often.

Honestly, I think I'm hitting a breaking point of human interaction, and as an extrovert that's wild.
Someone needs a time machine to go back to 2016, save Harambe's life, and stop the weasel from entering the Large Hadron Collider.
Absolutely. This is going to be devastating to the entire nation. We have a Jamaica restaurant here in Tampa that is looking to find out how we can get donations and supplies to the island. I'll post more once I have the info.
I need people to understand that you are not going to Jamaica for spring break.

You are not going to the Bahamas/Turks and Caicos on your cruise.

You are not going to scream about this on social media.

You are going to donate to relief efforts if you ever want to go these countries again.
Trying to explain to some people that the top schools for me to apply to right now aren't in blue states is like pulling teeth. "WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE TO MASSACHUSETTS AND WORK AT ONE OF OUR PRESTIGIOUS BASTIONS OF LIBERALISM THAT IS KNOW FOR THEIR INCESTUOUS AND NEPOTISTIC HIRING PRACTICES?"
The VA has completely FUBAR'd financial aid for military survivors. This is pre-shutdown related. I am out $1500+ a month now for the remainder of my PhD program. Please consider a paid subscription to my Patreon: patreon.com/zostepatrikia

I need to run out to the store and it's already dark at 7:30. The thought of it being dark at 6:30 in a few weeks is heartbreaking to me. Ugh. I hate this time of year.
It's a weird "both" situation right now. I found new things that are going to change a historical narrative, but I just gave myself a lot more work and potentially ticked off my advisor in the process.
If your dissertation doesn't make you cry, you're doing it wrong, I think.
Has anybody considered that today is actually celebrating Blondie's "Rapture" wherein Debbie Harry, a hardcore supporter of the NYC Rap/Hip Hop scene, created an avenue for the community to be brought to the mainstream when systemic racism refused to allow it in recording studios?
We really had such a vibrant indigenous society in FL that we know so little about thanks to the conquistadors and colonization. As a kid I hated Narvaez and de Soto, and it wasn't hidden from us what they did. I'm sure since FL went red they don't even mention the Spaniards anymore, too brown.
I was raised mostly in the Midwest but spent part of a school year in north Florida and learned about this!
Now I live in the desert southwest & love learning about the indigenous persons who have been here since forever & seek out books about the local history when I travel.
Happy Florida Thanksgiving! On this date in 1565, Pedro Menendez landed on the shores of what would be dedicated to Santo Augustin and immediately called for a mass of Thanksgiving in the Catholic faith to celebrate a safe voyage, as well as the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin. (1)
I don't know who needs to hear this, but I can enjoy college football and support my school's athletes while simultaneously shitting on the NCAA's practices and the BS that is NIL and the transfer portal. This bubble will pop and come at the price of students just trying to afford school. Fix it.
in North America based on the ideals of White Protestant Supremacy, and has created a culture that has ingrained hatred for anybody who doesn't smell like bacon after 30 seconds in the sun. My parents who grew up in NY were shocked to learn about St. Augustine when I was in grade school. (finito)
