True answers & knowledge come from within. If we're overwhelmed by the world, or if we feel we are caught up in the same routine & not moving forward, we need to take the necessary time to retreat from distractions. We need to search within for what we know & need in order to move forward.

This is the 9th card of the Tarot, an auspicious number of nearing completion or culmination.
Their hair is gray/pale blue symbolizing maturity and clarity.
They look to the past and hold a lantern to guide the way. In older versions, this was an hourglass and the figure represented Father Time (Saturn). “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives.”
The garments are: green symbolizing growth, blue- spirituality, red- life and vitality, gold- intellect and wisdom.
They hold a red staff of vitality and action.

There are challenges & difficulties in our lives. Sometimes external events create problems for us, sometimes we create them for ourselves. If a lot is coming at us we have to line up our problems & resolve them one at a time. Each one that is resolved removes a bit more instability.

This represents instability and challenges. The balance and harmony of four crossed staves has been disrupted by a fifth stave. It occludes the central diamond and the pale blue of its clarity is obscured by the other four. There are buds on the sides they are small and unopened. Despite this, the card is dominated by red and the potential vitality and energy it represents.

There are times when things go better than usual in little or big ways. Don’t fail to recognize those times; enjoy being mindful of them and embrace the movement forward. Coins pertain specifically to health, fitness, projects, finances, or job- something material in your life.

There are 4 pairs- 4 relects stability and 2 represents balance. In total 8 represents movement forward.
Gold represents money, but also intellect.
Red represents your vitality, vigor, and energy. The stylized red buds at top and bottom represent your energy to move forward and blossom from your efforts.
Each coin is a monad (circle with center dot), a representation of you within and part of the universe. The red center is your vitality/life force. The gold eight pointed star in the coin represents the cosmos and illumination. At the time the Tarot was created, the belief was that the eight known planets constituted the universe- beyond which was the divine in Neoplatonic philosophy.

The Knave of Staves reminds us to look to the future & pursue the growth we need. We all desire some form of growth: intellectual, spiritual, creative, experiential, etc. But meeting the demands of life means we can lose track. The Knave reminds us to refresh that goal & actively pursue it.

The Knight encourages us to keep working towards our goal- the one we truly desire. Progress is steady, slow at times, but don’t become discouraged and give up. The Knight shows us that the only way to reach it is to keep moving steadily towards it.
