Youngsters today can have little idea of how frightening it was to be an adolescent in the 1980s.

It took years to understand how HIV was transmitted and the process it took to develop into AIDS

The TV drama 'It's A Sin' gives a glimpse into that era

👉 Or if you feel like being really brave, just go and organise yourself that HIV test today (www.tht.org.uk/hiv-and-sexu...). It’s quick and simple to do and then you can tell everyone you’ve done it just as you would with COVID. How do you feel about that?

👉 Still not quite sure what HIV stigma might feels like? Assuming you’ve been comfortable throughout COVID sharing with friends / family / colleagues whether you’ve tested positive for the virus or not, would you be as open about having an HIV test and sharing those results? If not, why not?

Many folks who have HIV are living in fear and shame simply because of lack of education, awareness and general stigma by the ignorant towards what is now clinically recognised as long-term medical condition further down the ‘it’ll finish you off’ list than diabetes.

👉 Anyone who is HIV+ and on effective treatment which keeps their viral load undetectable, cannot pass the virus on to anyone else in any way. It really is that simple.

👉 HIV isn’t something that just affects gay men, the biggest rise in infections now is actually amongst the heterosexual community

It’s #WorldAIDSDay2022 so here are some fun facts about HIV:

👉 If a person with HIV is on effective (ie successfully working) treatment, their meds essentially sit on the virus to such a point it doesn’t show up in blood tests - that’s what’s called an ‘undetectable’ viral load.

Today is #WorldAIDSDay for many it’s a sad day remembering those lost. 44 Million. It’s a sobering statistic. Nonetheless science and medicine has made leaps and bounds but our work is not done until a vaccine is universally available and everyone who needs treatment gets it. 💊

After years of decline, Trump’s cuts to HIV/AIDS funding, mirrored by the UK and others, mean that AIDS death and HIV infections are rising again.

Aid cuts have shaken HIV/Aids care to its core – and will mean millions more infections ahead
Reports highlight devastating impact of slashed funding, especially in parts of Africa, that could lead to 3.3m new HIV infections by 2030

All the supposedly progressive people saying 'Nigel Farage's racism doesn't matter. His fans love it'.

It matters whether the leader of the party leading all the opinion polls is an outright racist. It matters if he called black people 'wogs' and said 'gas them' to Jews. Not everything is a game

You can add exemptions to immigration rules for different groups, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. When you say that migrants are second class and "less than" others, as this government is doing, that feeds through to everyone. Migrants aren't a disposable resource to pick and choose from.
