I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

I'd watch that movie.
This headline got me all exited that Elizabeth Warren was going to fight The Batman.

Which is doubly fun, because I am totally in favor of dudes being "fucking weirdos" who make cool art, build epic shit, party, and fuck. I just don't want those dudes to be weird about other people being "weird."
Fun that that this country is burning down because a handful of emotionally stunted dudes were furious they can’t get laid without living up to the low bar standard of “don’t be a fucking weirdo”

I find “civil war” discourse a little funny.

No one is going to be rocking AR15s by year 8 of the thing.

The final battle for Washington will be fought by the Cali forces rocking a mix of Type 89s, K2s, C7s, supporting by base M1 Abrams reactivated by Korean techs at SIAD and Toyotas in BDUs.

Datacenters being over funded and built and powered by fake VC inflated values is a problem.

Agricultural water usage and pollution are a problem.

They're somewhat related, but not the same problem.
there is a problem with datacenters. they have a huge footprint. they use a huge amount of electricity. much of the electricity they use is eating up renewable capacity and forcing us to keep natgas plants alive.

agricultural water usage in the county is 3.5 orders of magnitude larger.
You can have strong feels about data centers without spreading this kind of nonsense. Bad environmental journalism

This is horrific and exactly what those of us in Black studies, gender studies, women’s studies have been warning our colleagues in the sciences about. Their seeming neutrality will not save them.
Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Just a reminder that Newsom grew up in a rich family, went to school on a baseball scholarship, and immediately found a billionaire to financially back his vineyard. And also he’s related to Nancy Pelosi.

He does not know what normal is. He’s completely out of touch and telling you to be “normal”.

For comparison, every robotic mission NASA has ever sent in its history, from the dawn of the Space Age 65 years ago to today, from Mercury to Pluto and beyond, has cost less than $40B.

I know which one has done more for humankind and which one should be dismantled.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the ‘Metaverse’ has cost Meta more than $77B

The company now plans to cut spending on it and shift focus to AI wearables instead

GOP just burning down our democracy in real time.
Utah lawmakers are planning to convene in an unexpected special session this Tuesday. Why? To move the filing deadline for congressional candidates, to give the GOP more time to appeal the ruling that created a Dem seat.

I’ve said for a while that one of the loadbearing myths in right wing American politics is that, if they wanted to, they could just kill all the liberals. “We’re the only ones with the guns! Don’t piss us off!!!” and whenever they run into evidence contrary it TERRIFIES them

This is a really good and detailed article/post-mortem about Be and BeOS. I'm surprised to see folks writing about it still.

Be was my first job out of school, and I learned a heck of a lot.
I did love Be's old slogan, “one processor per person is not enough”. They were at least 10 years ahead of what typical PC hardware supported. You could buy SMP PC's, Macs, and UNIX workstations in 1997, but they were expensive and required workstation OS's, e.g. UNIX or NT. macfolkloreradio.com/be/
