Something to be said about how all the Hounds in WARHOUND represent different responses to stress and trauma. A bit like the fight, flight, fawn, freeze dynamic, although that's a huge oversimplification.

The war's stagnated on all sides. Automatic machinegun fire ripples up and down the trenches that scar the lands, veins of brass and arteries of gunpowder marking the lands. Nobody knows what the death toll is; every side stopped counting after the 10th year of war. It would do them no good to know. To say morale is low in the trenches is an understatement of a degree most severe. Morale is nonexistent. The average serviceman has nothing but void in their eyes and has forgotten how it feels to feel. When the commanders blow the whistle to charge over the top, their soldiers either cant hear it over the artillery, or can't even manage to make themselves move. The one symbol of hope is the Behemoths. Great, lumbering titans of steel, tall enough to walk right over cities. 20 men or so are crammed into just one of these beasts, lumbering and catastrophic by the very sense of the word, armed to the teeth with guns and plated in heavy metal to keep the operators 'safe', if such a term is even fair. One such wave of Behemoths is about ready to deploy, now. High command hopes they'll be the ones to finally break the stalemate, but that's no good if the infantry is too stunned to even eat their daily meal. That's where the princess comes in. Radiant with life in her eyes and a perfectly curated body, she's unlike anything the troops had ever seen. A small trip; just head down to the trenches and bolster the men's morale, and sit back on the sidelines to watch them lay down their lives for the empire. A simple job, and one she was oh too eager to fulfill, life in the now rather antiquated castle is so bland and disinteresting. She'd much rather have a feel for adventure instead. The first day of her propaganda mission is awkward. For some of the men, they recognize her in her royal gown and sparkling jewelry. They feel blessed by her presence, and it seems to ignite a spark of life back into them. For others, they feel embarrassed, they get flustered and weak in the chest. Others still think of her to be fake, a façade, some ghost of the war sent to torment them with memories of their past life. So she gets an idea. Maybe its her attire. If she dresses just like the soldiers, then maybe they'll have an easier time appreciating her, they'll feel less overwhelmed by the presence of this royal figure. Maybe she'll even make a friend or two. It's rather lonely, being a monarch in this day and age. So she has her servants procure her a private's uniform, and the next day she's transformed. The flecks of dirt and gunsmoke have already began to soil her perfect face, but now she's discarded those stuffy gowns that she always was forced to wear, and stowed those jewels in a safe lockbox in the command bunker. Now, she almost looks like one of them. It's not the response she's looking for. The soldiers seem to think she's a new recruit fresh from the capital. Some tease her, some try to give her lessons, others just start crying from seeing the reflection of innocence they once held themselves. As she's making her rounds up and down the trenches, attempting to bring what words of hope and courage she can to the soldiers, she gets called aside by someone. A gruff woman, significantly taller than her, calls her aside. She's covered in grease stains and bruises, but doesn't seem to wield a rifle like the other soldiers. She's no machine gunner either. She says they need some help, and after all, wasn't that the reason the princess came here? So of course she obliges. What she was never ready for was being crammed into one of the Behemoths. Sealed away in that tight metal box, the door rivetted shut for their own safety. The screaming of the engine begun to choke the cabin with smog, and that woman from earlier is stood so close together with her that she can feel her grinding against the princess' ass the whole time. She's been conscripted as a loader for the main gun. Grab the shell from the first in line, pass it to the next. Over and over. The gun fires, the metal titan shudders and threatens to fall. Next shell. Artillery threatens to kill the beast, to splay that horrid form of metal and violence across the countryside of their grand empire, an empire that one day she was to inherit. Not today. Today she's a member of the beast, an organ of violence not unlike that commoner woman before her. There's no light inside the metal tomb, and its impossible to hear over the roar of the main gun, and the song of the support machinegunners cutting down the enemy infantry below. Grab, pass, grab, pass, grab pass. On and on, Projectile. Propellant. Primer. Grab, pass, grab, pass, grab pass. Another scream of the gun. Another hundred enemy men dead from the blast some kilometer away. What power they wield, and yet she holds none of it. Just a component in the beast, the same as any other. They survive the attack. The day is won, but she's changed. They were only sealed into the Behemoth for but an hour and 20 minutes. It's a lifetime of difference to the once-princess. She makes no protest when the commoner from before takes her into her bunk. She makes no resistance or claim to royal title as she's undressed. All she can think of is the behemoth, is being a part of that horrid machine. Thank the gods she's not alone with these thoughts. The commoner woman feels them too. The commoner's grown to savor them, the same way she's savoring the body of the now broken princess. Just a day earlier had this happened, the royal lady would've made no hesitation to draw a ceremonial dagger and gut her assailant. Now, there isn't even tears. The commoner's warmth is something she had yet to feel - a princess should never have sex outside of wedlock, of course. It's her first time, and its being done not for her, but to her, by this ragged, filthy, war-stained commoner. She couldn't have imagined how good it would feel. The official reports say the princess went missing during the attack, presumed dead, buried under rubble. But rumors have circulated among the troops, of a familiar, pretty face, being seen around the behemoth corps now. That face is changed forever, a princess no longer, just an instrument of war. And she couldn't possibly be happier.
