Unsolicited writing advice, no. 32388:
Think hard about your opening paragraph. It's the reader's doorway into your world. Don't block it with info dumping, jargon or backstory. Make it as enticing and accessible as you can. Invite your readers in.

I’m fine with discussions about how to be less judgmental, but not from people who think that means trans people don’t get rights.

We’re not the judgmental ones in this whole thing.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

MY HEART
I mean, yeah. That's the entire point? Heated Rivalry, the book, is about loneliness and isolation and shoving yourself so deeply in the closet that you can't see anything outside of it, except you can't deny yourself one fundamental sweetness. The one that allows you to express your true self.

White being the color of the year is hardly a shock
Pantone’s 2026 color of the year is technically not a color at all — meet Cloud Dancer, the first-ever white shade to receive the designation from the world’s color authority.
Pantone makes a surprising choice for its 2026 color of the year
We did not see that coming.

Calling them "drug wars" is submitting the the fascists' framing, because they're not providing any evidence whatsoever that the people they are bombing in international waters have anything to do with drugs. Also, trafficking drugs isn't a capital offense.

So, just a garden variety murder spree.

And, also, if you run a business that regularly purchases shipping supplies: ULINE is run by some of the worst people on Earth. Get your boxes and tape elsewhere.
Remember: don't eat the mid tier fast food chicken, don't play the wizard game, don't shop at the hobby store run by the bad guys from Indiana Jones, and don't donate to the bigot bucket.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

This was one of Trump's very worst moments. And that is saying something.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Hey, #Lynnwood, WA! A colleague of mine lost a necklace that is very important to her at our conference at Lynnwood Event Center last weekend (11/8).

It is a gold necklace with an uncut ruby that isn't quite facet grade so it's a pink/red color with lots of ridges.

Please share so this gets out!

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I’m tired of people acting like the shitty status quo is a fact of nature instead of something humans can change

The people in charge know that it’s not

That’s why they’ve put so much time, money, and effort into convincing us otherwise
This is probably not incorrect.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t constantly demand it happen and toss aside Democrats who won’t do it.

Some form of justice has to occur in order to move forward.
