Pearl octopuses (Muusoctopus robustus) gather around deep-sea thermal springs to form "octopus nurseries." They lay their eggs then shield them with a silly, upside down pose until they hatch.

The warm water here helps their eggs develop much faster, although it still takes ~1.8 years.

A newly hatched Pearl octopus (Muusoctopus robustus), among a group of brooding octopuses. The brooding octopuses are magenta pale and mostly in the same pose, upside down with their arms reaching back around their head and mantle, with their suckers exposed. The baby octopus is a slightly translucent white and is much smaller than the adults. It is swimming up. There are black rocks around that mostly a bit bigger than the octopuses, and some other invertebrates are around.

A Pearl octopus (Muusoctopus robustus) crawling on the seabed at a depth of 3545 m. The octopus is a light magenta or lavender colour. It has webbing between its arms and it is raising one arm. It has two rows of suckers on its arms. It has black eyes.

A large group of Pearl octopus (Muusoctopus robustus) brooding among some pale orange sea anemones. They are a pale magenta, and most of them are adopting the same pose, upside down with their arms reaching back around their head and mantle, with their suckers exposed. The ground is covered in black rocks that vary in size but are mostly a bit bigger than the octopuses.

The Vampire Squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) is the spookiest cephalopod. Despite its name, it is neither vampire nor squid. They are more closely related to octopuses, but are their own thing.

They are also the only cephalopod that doesn't hunt live prey, eating detritus instead.
