Discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. Nebula illuminated by a young star cluster in Cepheus. Estimated to be between 7,000 to 8,500 light years away. #astrophotography

Pleasing fact for today: William Whewell's wife, Cordelia Marshall was Reginald Dykes Marshall's aunt. Reginald married Margaret Louisa Herschel in 1858. The Marshalls were from a mill owning family in Leeds.
