It’s more that the absurd marginal rate of tax between £100k and £120k encourages those people to work less, or retire early, or not get promoted. We should *want* these people to be more productive, earn more, pay more tax…

I'm hoping to unite Left and Right - they'll all hate my piece in today's Sunday Times, saying that successive Budgets have overtaxed the highest-earning 20%, and under-taxed both the median earner and the richest 0.1%.https://buff.ly/BqRFpJr

I've now heard from several people who left the UK because of exit tax rumours, and others who plan to leave because they think it will happen next time.

The exit tax leaks were really unfortunate. It would be a very good idea for Ms Reeves to clearly rule out any future exit tax.

Can’t remember budget ‘case studies’ ever being quite so funny. Especially in newspapers that recently anointed Liz Truss a fiscal genius.
Wow - this guy must be really, REALLY bad with money if an extra £208 per month will “ruin” his retirement.

Let’s take a look at his situation based on what he told the @Telegraph

Because this does NOT add up!

No, this is not a “poor pensioner” scrabbling around for pennies…

Plus sides to today: Two-child benefit scrapped. Largely progressive tax implications. Good market reaction. No big spending cuts. Nightmare prospect of cutting funding to net zero etc avoided. It's a left-wing budget. Those who say there's no difference between Labour and Tories are bananas.

What's happened to council tax over the last 30 years? Has it really doubled?

Yes. Here's how, and here's why: buff.ly/7HSGJij
Has council tax really gone up? The evidence.
We strip out inflation to show how UK council tax has changed in real terms, and explain how funding cuts and social care drove the rise.

Rachel Reeves says there’s a “hole” in the public finances.

A new decade-long Brexit study explains it:

a 6–8% hit to GDP – that's £180bn-£240bn a year – means less tax, less investment and less money for everything else.

Brexit made Britain poorer. Much poorer.
