Ida Lupino in Roadhouse (1948). All hail the badass. She sings hauntingly, raspy, & with perfect smoky depression the classic Johnny Mercer song "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)".

DOUBLE DEAL (1950). An odd little noir. It’s 64 mins, so the pace is decent. But — a monkey? On a ranch in Oklahoma??? Marie Windsor is, as always, the saving grace in these B noirs. She gets to butch it up a little here. And when she slapped the cigarette out of Lilly’s mouth? I was shook.

A noir set and filmed in Hawaii, which was kinda cool. I’m always a bit underwhelmed by Wendell Corey, but the rest of the cast made up for it.

Visited Joan Crawford’s resting place today. And yes, I wore my JOHNNY GUITAR pin.

Watched HELLFIRE (1949) again tonight. Been on a Marie Windsor kick lately and I just love that Trucolor saturation. Must get a phyiscal copy someday since the upload on YT is pretty blurry and grainy.

Watched the 1952 noir THE SNIPER last night. The OG incel flick, with a touch of pre-BSU criminal profiling and psychology. Such a loaded cast, most in bit parts and uncredited, but lots of familiar faces.

I could watch Marie Windsor scheme men all day long. Unfortunately all of those men are bores, so after Carolyn’s, erm, exit halfway into the film, we’re left with a dull cast and predictable ending. Still not terrible for a poverty row noir.

Showing my wife JOHNNY GUITAR tonight. The first thing she said when Johnny came on screen: “Is that the titular guitar?” 😂

Well, what can I say. Hm. The Technicolor saturation really made Joan’s monochrome dress suits pop. 🤷
#NowWatching: TROG (1970). My expectations are supremely low, but I’m always down for a little B movie Crawford.

A pretty average film that could have been saved by a few tweaks.
1. The score for a thriller should not sound like a Brady Bunch episode.
2. Only 9 minutes of Joan?? Please.
3. Despite its 82-minute length, it was about 20 minutes too long.
