We gotta find better ways to describe these arrests, man. "Detained" ain't cutting it. Getting your car window busted out and getting dragged away isn't "detained." Getting stopped on the street and disappeared for writing an OpEd isn't getting "detained." The language needs to match the action here

Unimaginably disturbing that people from one country are being sent to a prison 'you don't come out of' in a completely different country by the government of a country they were living in. And people were warning from the start of The War on Terror that this would happen!
The reason that we have due process is that the authoritarians who don't care about that type of stuff are also not especially picky about targeting the "right" people.
This is horrifying! Family members of some of the people sent to do hard labor in a Salvadoran prison by Trump confirm their loved ones weren't members of a gang.

In 1933, center right politicians not too different from Schumer decided to voluntarily give Hitler power of Chancellor, and later complete dictatorial power of the country.
They believed that giving Hitler unlimited power would weaken his political standing, somehow.

Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.

This is a really good burn but also to a significant degree I think the Dems just agree with a lot of stuff that ordinary people find outrageous and at least some of their apparent incompetence is actually a way for them to have some plausible deniability about their own beliefs.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.
