This year has been quite good for Surmullet (Mullus surmuletus) in Sweden, especially on night dives, saw several this past weekend. 🤿🐙🦑

#MolluscMonday with piping fresh mollusc photos from the weekend, this time we got the Velvet dorid (Jorunna tomentosa) as our featured species, this is one of the larger species found in Sweden, so often quite easy to spot.

Once again it is #MolluscMonday with piping fresh mollusc photos from the weekend, this time a for me new species, the Crystal sea slug (Antiopella cristata), and i have to admit, it is one of the prettiest nudibranchs i've ever seen 🦑🤿

#MolluscMonday is here again, and after a longer hiatus, i have been able to get into the water once more
This time it was mainly Orange-brown aeolids (Aeolidiella glauca), a rather unassuming species of nudibranch

What better way to start the week than with a cute little bobtail squid (unsure if Sepietta oweniana or Sepiola atlantica) for #MolluscMonday?
These cuties are present all year round, but prefer to be out after dark, which is hard in summer here

Who is featured this #WormWednesday? Well that would be the King ragworm (Alitta virens), sometimes known as Sandworm. While it may not reach the sizes of its sci-fi counterpart of Arraksis, it is a species that can grow to quite the size (20-30 cm according to Artfakta.se)

Oh Worm? Another week, another #WormWednesday, still no good worm photos this year, so I got a Sea mouse (Aphrodita aculeata) from last year instead for now.
In my opinion, it is one of the prettier polychaetes we got in the Nordic seas :)

Well would you look at that, it is #WormWednesday, sadly i don't got any good worm photos this year, but here, have a Oxydromus flexuosus (unsure if it has a English common name, in Sweden we call it "Green-white flailing worm") that i took a few years ago

I was recently tipped off by another local marine biologist that "Mud diver shrimp" (Processa nouveli) is a thing, and well... they are quite common on night dives. So you learn something new every day, had completely overlooked these cuties while over the soft bottom looking for 🦑

A bit late for #WorldJellyfishDay because I totally did not forget the date or anything, Nuh uh ‹_‹.
Aaaanyways, have a Crystal Jellyfish (Arquorea vitrina) taken on Divers night in Lysekil 2024 🤿🪼🦑

Well would you look at that, it is #SeaslugDay! time to post some nudibranch photos, this photo of a Facelina bostonensis, which we call Dragon nudibranch in Sweden, was taken in November last year, nudibranch season hasn't quite started up in my area just yet, but soon 🤿🦑

Scientists raise the alarm: Too many harbour porpoises dying in nets.

In Danish coastal waters over 900 die each year vs a 24 death limit that would keep Belt Sea population stable. In 2012 & 2016, there were around 40.000 individuals, by 2022, only 14.000 left.  🧪🦑🌎

Finally broke my long surface interval from diving this weekend, while waters were cold, it was so nice to be back in business! Got some photos too, but i forgot to turn off the camera between the dives, so it ran out of battery on the second dive, when all the nicer things showed up 🤪

Another Wednesday, another reason to be pink.
This is a Bryer's Nut crab (Ebalia tumefacta), a tiny species of crab that can be found on sandy, rocky and gravel seafloors. this particular individual was seen during Diversnight in Lysekil 2023 (no clue how i even spotted it)

On Wednesday we wear pink!
Though the name of the nudibranch is Violet sea slug (Edmundsella pedata), i'd say this one from Väderöarna archipelago is of a sufficiently pinkish colouration, right?
