Today is National Housing Day. I write this from Vancouver, one of Canada’s wealthiest cities, and where homelessness reached an all-time high this year.

It wasn’t always this way. Canada has a massive deficit of affordable public housing, ever since Liberal governments slashed funding in the 90s.

After promising landed status on arrival for caregivers, government shut the pilot without explanation—while 34,000 cases remain stuck in backlog. Cutting PR quotas will leave caregivers waiting over 7 years. Caregivers should never be treated as 2nd class. Expand allocation and clear backlog now.
