George Garvin Brown was born this day in 1846. In 1870, he created Old Forester, the first bottled bourbon. The Brown family continues to be one of the top producers of bourbon. Each year Brown-Forman releases a new batch of "Birthday Bourbon" to celebrate the its founder.

One of my favorite things to do with a new whiskey is to add a drop of water to see how it changes the smell and taste.

How much are we changing it though?

Time for some #WhiskeyMath here on #WhiSKY.

Some Wednesday #WhiskeyMath on converting 🥃 volume measurements!

Wine, whiskey, and other spirits are sold with bottles marking their volumes in milliliters (mL). The most common size is 750 mL (or a “fifth”, referencing a fifth of a gallon).

In 2020, I got drawn in lotteries to buy a William Larue Weller, Four Roses Limited Edition, and a Birthday Bourbon in about an 8-week span.

I think I used up all my bourbon luck that year 😅

This is two glowing reviews I’ve seen out of nowhere just TODAY on this product. Consider me intrigued!
Scotch whisky from Campbeltown isn’t overly common: there are only three working distilleries. One distillery, Glen Scotia, has rebranded its 10-Year-Old Single Malt, and I’ve reviewed it for you. Cheers!

Best way to do a tasting is with friends! Glad I have a neighbor that does these with me.

This tasting was all about Penelope - only two samples this time, but a good brand for sure! I’ll definitely consider more of their products after this.

Today’s #WhiskeyScience post is all about the COLOR of bourbon (and other whiskeys too, I guess 😉)

Bourbon gets its color from the barrel during aging. But WHAT is it, exactly, that imparts that heavenly amber hue? 🥃

I was curious, so I went and dug for the answer.

Time for a 🧵

Anyone got a good picture of bourbon being dumped out of the barrel, or someone filling a glass with a thief?

I’m working on a thread and I’d rather use a good photo and attribute it than try to use AI or a stock photo somewhere.
