Independence is normal.

Not my king - abolish the monarchy.
I don't automatically follow back.
The banner is the view over my garden to Castle Hill (large tree), where King Malcolm Canmore 1st held Parliament in 1058.

I see the PM is being very rattled and very untruthful about the Greens again in the papers.

He couldn’t say this stuff in Parliament because he would be lying to the House - both about what our popular, evidence-based policies are, and about him believing this guff.

The last one we had under the tories actively undermined the democratically elected Scottish Parliament.

Typically, the role has been a nice little earner for a landowning Tory Leech.

The "UK" identity is a toxic figment of the English imagination, cooked up for the English in Wales, the English in Scotland and the English in Ireland.

Maybe turn Westminster into an English parliament, scrap the house of lords and put in a Senate made up of senators from all the devolved countries who would deal with major lawmaking and policy, Channel islands and crown dependencies would also get representatives and Cornwall recognised.

Exactly the same in Scotland. They don’t like the Devolved Governments doing anything that makes the English Parliament look bad. Even down to cancelling our Deposit Return Scheme. Then trying to blame Scottish Govt. Charlatans. Last vestiges of a dying Empire. Independence is normal.

Why is there no devolved English government and Secretary of State for England in this ‘voluntary’ union.
Time to get out of this toxic union!!

Indeed many of us felt when devolution was first implemented that the roles of SoS for Scotland, Wales and NI should have been abolished or at least restricted to areas of clearly reserved matters. Instead, they have simply worked to undermine the devolution they said they supported.

The Secretary of State roles should be scrapped completely and the UK PM should deal directly with the Welsh, Scottish and Irish First Ministers on a monthly basis in a dedicated meeting with each, individually.

It is NOT supposed to be a Viceroy role.

It’s high time that the Secretary of State model is abolished, I can’t remember the last time the role was carried out as it should (Wales voice in the cabinet).

Instead it’s always the UKGov’s voice in Wales, often enforcing political shithousery on Wales.

Scrap it.

“If the UK again wants to join the EU, then the first order of business has to be for the UK to reform itself so it can live with EU membership.“

Very good and level headed analysis👇with a good question at the end.
For my last Sunday Scribblings of 2025, back to one of my recurring themes, the future relationship between the UK and the EU. It is not going anywhere, anytime soon.

The Labour party needs to urgently dump Keir Starmer.

The party needs a Leader and one that leads the UK back into the EU.

Odd that.

Right: Pat McFadden says Labour will not take the UK into a Customs Union with the EU as David Lammy suggested, citing three trade deals with India, UK and UK-EU reset

Cabinet minister Pat McFadden said the prime minister has been ‘pretty clear’ that the UK won’t be rejoining the customs union.

Clinging to those red lines while the economy suffers & US stirs up trouble with Europe is starting to look very unwise.

Even with Scotland’s relatively large 65+ population - the group least likely to back independence - the overall picture is clear.

Across the full voting population, current polling shows YES would win a referendum with almost 59% support.

Scotland has already moved on.
