Change is fragile in the beginning. Protect it by surrounding it with people who understand that supporting you doesn’t mean fixing you, it means standing beside you while you practice becoming www.catsprague.com/blog/the-har...
The Hardest Step in Change Isn’t Starting. It’s Asking for Support. — Cat Sprague
Something I have been thinking about all year: change. I have been so many versions of myself. I have a partner now that watches it unfold and supports the journey. That was not always the case. …

How to Practice

Notice your thoughts, emotions, or impulses as if you were watching clouds pass in the sky.
Label them gently (“anger,” “fear,” “hope”) without judgment.
Allow them to arise and fade, rather than feeding them with action or rumination.

Why it matters:

It breaks cycles of reactive behavior.
It lets you respond intentionally rather than habitually.
It cultivates inner freedom and clarity.

Observation without reaction ~
The goal is to notice these impulses, memories, or patterns as they arise without immediately acting on them. This prevents old karma from dictating new actions.

Karmic residue = past impressions
These are the lingering effects of your past actions, thoughts, or experiences that color your current reactions. For example, a past hurt might make you defensive, or a past kindness might make you overly hopeful.

A core teaching in mindfulness and meditation practice is to observe karmic residue without reaction.

Begin in a quiet spot, either indoors or outside, where you can comfortably settle in.

Close your eyes and take a few deep, intentional breaths. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose, then release the breath fully through your mouth. Allow your body and mind to settle into the present moment.
