Just a reminder that NWS is considered essential during a government shutdown. Meteorologists will still go to work, forecasts will still be made, watches and warnings will be issued, data will flow. We won’t be paid until the shutdown ends, but we’ll still protect life and property as always.

Figured timelines could use a sunset photo.

Took this walk while on the evening shift the other night. The NIFC campus is a good restorative break use.

Fantastic news for the 68.8 million Americans that speak a language other than English at home.

The important work continues 🙌🏽
Update: The National Weather Service’s contract to produce common language translations for nws.noaa.gov
products has been reinstated.

Translation capabilities are expected to be operational on or before the end of the day on Monday, April 28.

National Weather Service employees were encouraged to take early retirements at an all-hands meeting Thursday. The union believes as many as 1,000 could leave in the coming months - out of a workforce of just over 4,000.

Another week of midnights in the books. Gotta figure out better habits when I’m working them.

Been writing long term AFD sections for a few shifts now. Issued first TAFs today too. Inner geek in me very proud.

I’m keeping a running upperair observation status page on my website.

I have additional metadata like reason for degradation, degradation type, when the degradation began, etc. In a coming update you will be able to read those things by clicking on the site.

“It was a bust”

Nope. Multiple significant tors and fatalities occurred with at least 37 tornado reports so far.

Just because you didn’t get your disaster porn in a heavily populated area doesn’t mean the forecast was a bust. Some of y’all need therapy.
