A very short sighted move from the state government here. The arts sector plays a significant role in Tasmania’s economy. TAFE is where I got my real start in a career, and here I am many years later still using skills I gained there #politas
Arts students and lab technician students will leave the state to find more affordable courses interstate. There will be nobody to teach so teachers will lose their jobs. So much for keeping youth in the state. #politas

What have we learned? Some excerpts from my latest read, The Correspondent by Peter Greste, reveal we seem to have learned very little when it comes to what democracy means and how to not fall for the war of words - details in ALT tags.

Good statement. Far from being extremists, as they are often painted in the media, the Greens the voice of common sense in this situation. The Lib/Labs, meanwhile, have made fools of themselves. #politas

Will Tasmanians endorse the Rockliff government, or will they, inspired by the season, opt for Winter?

Or, will the state end up in much the same place it currently is?

Here’s a first take from me on the #politas state of play as the campaign begins:

Will this election herald new era of stable politics? Don't bet on it
This snap election may well end 11 years of Liberal government in Tasmania. But in a state with a history of long-running Labor governments, it's far from clear if this election will usher in a new er...

Note to major #politas parties, I’m not interested in smear, attack or scare campaigns. I want to know your REAL plan and policy positions - a long term, actionable vision - for Tasmania’s and Tasmanians’ future - including fixing the budget. And zero pork barrelling. I’m sure I am not alone.

A modest supply bill has passed Tasmania's parliament, so an election can be held without the risk that government workers will go without pay. Rockliff is now requesting a dissolution from state governor Barbara Baker. Here's what I think *will* happen vs what *should* (and why it won't) 1/9

What’s happening in Gaza is beyond belief. Don’t let this continue. @albomp.bsky.social you need to do more. Via @unitednationshumanrights The sharp escalation of attacks & killings this week, including #Israel’s strikes on hospitals, are compounding the already desperate humanitarian situation.

Never forget how many of those advising the ALP are patting themselves on the back for ensuring the govt did nothing in this.

“Not an issue/we made sure it hurt the Greens”

Those doing so are truly putrid. At best excusing murder, at worst cheering for it.

Labor and the Liberals each hold one seat by a tiny margin and one more comfortably. But none is a sure thing – and a long-shot independent is aiming for a huge upset

Just no. There are at least three candidates in Braddon who don’t support transgender rights, or worse believe they shouldn’t have any. Do your research and please consider human rights when you vote.
