This is what happens when you don't regulate prices for the things that people have no choice but to buy.

Also, would like to note on clothing and furniture prices: The prices may be level, but the products are *so* much worse.
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

This is a bad deal, and the old way of doing things is clearly not working.

We need new leaders in the Senate.

i don’t think the axios reporting is entirely off base if you have house members out here soft launching an abolish-the-senate position lmfao
I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

Six people died from tampered Tylenol and the company pulled 30 million bottles off the market. ChatGPT is accused of urging seven people towards suicide, and OpenAI just assures us they’re still working out the kinks. Billions in investment, zero accountability.
OpenAI faces 7 lawsuits claiming ChatGPT drove people to suicide, delusions

I'm happy from a political standpoint watching Donald Trump and his party forced into debating health care. It's like watching a walrus do quantum physics

It's fundamentally absurd that someone with these wacko beliefs is allowed to give legal permission to Donald Trump to do whatever he wants. I'm of course speaking about transubstantiation
JUSTICE AMY CONEY BARRETT:

“Being a conservative woman in a law school, particularly, takes a lot of courage and independence, and in many ways shows more feminism than just falling into some predetermined vision of what a woman should be.”

the diehards of the conservative legal movement think increased chances of plane crashes and death are an acceptable trade off for better corporate profits
ICYMI, yesterday, far-right-wing federal district court judge Reed O’Connor approved a deal to dismiss criminal fraud charges against Boeing for the 737 Max air disasters

There had been a *stronger* Biden-era plea deal in 2024, which O’Connor rejected, but now he approves a weaker Trump deal
O’Connor now accepts the Trump Administration‘s revised non-prosecution agreement, which does not include any independent monitor

So O’Connor is ok with no monitor, but was not ok was an independent monitor whose hiring had a diversity policy involved

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

unless we want to be right back here with a new wannabe dictator in a few years, we cannot let the energy behind last night's elections dissipate, nor can we let it be channeled into supporting the same exact politics that brought us here in the first place.

brett is seeing everyone post about “kavanaugh stops” and he’s losing his mind
Brett Kavanaugh's behavior during today's second oral arguments has been incredibly obnoxious and rude. He is so eager to kill a service member's lawsuit against a negligent government contractor that he keeps interrupting other justices, raising his voice, and getting emotional. Weird and erratic.
