The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

I know they say there is no such thing as bad publicity but I’m the type of petty that if your ad interrupts my movie I will remember you and never buy your product/service for as long as I live. I can hold a grudge for a long time and have excellent recall for names (brands) that piss me off.

Ask yourself whether S*bst*ck's "social features" are worth supporting n*zis.

Major sources of hate speech are located outside the US. Well yeah, we have this conversation every few months. And every few months people reject the bright shiny evidence that easiest way to ruin America is to feed the hate and bigotry that already exists here.

this is important legislation. but it is also important to note that while #adoption politics scrambles partisan affiliations, there is also an overwhelmingly strong bipartisan consensus that private, plenary adoption is a social good to be preserved and strengthened. the quotations illustrate this.

the other thing i want to say about this is that IMLS, like other library services, are but a *drop in the bucket* of public expenditures. if you thought that eliminating IMLS was about fiscal responsibility… well, you knew it wasn’t. 📚
I used to handle interlibrary loans for a public library. ILL is a magnificent expression of the idea that readers deserve books, and books deserve readers. It’s libraries everywhere pooling their resources for the benefit of everyone.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.

This is great news. 📚

My first job out of HS was working with inter library loans. Did them as work study in college & was a one person ILL dept for 7 years at my library after college. Can confirm everything Tony says here. It’s a lot of work & is often unseen bc so many people don’t even know the service exists.

…The fact that, as we tracked last season, AI EdTech is being rolled out most aggressively at HBCUs & other PoC-serving institutions just makes its intent, as a new iteration of Jim Crow, more bald-faced.

Gonna go download Tanksley whole research archive now.
