Well, here I am.

while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Just a reminder that Trump had his attorney general preempt the Mueller Report with a self-serving “summary” and the media ran with it and it defined everything that came after.

Something to remember as we wait for a probably doctored and scrubbed “Epstein Files” report.

journalists are not subordinate to the government and therefore cannot be insubordinate in questioning the government

The "blowing Bubba" thing has to be a metaphor, because there's simply no way in hell that as big a narcissist as Trump has ever gone down on anyone. Ever.

One of the real revelations of the Epstein emails is that Epstein himself was not especially bright, dispelling the "genius" tag that had always seemed ill fitting.

It's almost like there was some other reason rich and powerful men were drawn to him, some other skill he had. Weird.

Someone opened a credit card in my name. Can't reach the issuing bank without an acct number. After days, they finally responded to an email with a direct fraud dept # where I'm informed I'm calling after business hours. I am not. Is there any point anymore to contacting the CFPB @warren.senate.gov

They don't leave because it's where there is the most money to be had from the collective value generated by human beings, and despite what they insist, they don't generate wealth; they collect it.
And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

It all would have been much easier if, as would have happened if we were remotely a serious country, it all ended with the Access Hollywood interview.

cancel culture is a specious frame intended to make abusers and bigots appear as victims

and by ceding to that frame, we abdicated our social intolerance of the abdominal and emboldened the worst among us

causal cruelty in turn began to metastasize and fascism found new fertile grounds

Someone's opening credit cards in my name, & the issuing bank has an automated phone line that won't let you through w/o providing an account number. I don't know the acct number; the thief does.

In a sane society, you'd go to prison for designing a system that keeps people from reporting fraud.

Let's sccept the conceit that Trump is running the country "like a business."

A private equity firm executed a hostile takeover of a firm with extraordinary revenue and wealth under the business plan of "do racism." And they immediately begin to scrap the company for parts. And do racism.

Once upon a time, the richest Americans worried that if conditions got bad enough all the poors might just rise up against them, and so they avoided getting *too* obvious with their exploitation.

Today's crop just brags about it.

Dick Cheney did more than anyone else to build up expansive and destructive executive branch powers in the wake of 9/11; he lived to see another president turn those same powers against his own daughter.

He should be a warning sign to the GOP today but too many of them are in the cult.

It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.
