Daniel Barton Oerther is an American professor. He is best known for leadership bridging engineering and nursing to advance environmental health practice through science diplomacy. Oerther uses 16S ribosomal RNA-targeted techniques for fundamental studies of the ecology of bacteria in engineered and natural systems. He promotes transdisciplinarity among engineers, nurses, and sanitarians to improve access to clean water, nutritious food, efficient energy use, and financial services in developing communities. Oerther practices innovation in the scholarship of teaching and learning, including modified mastery learning. .. more

Thanks to General Manager Rob Thompson, PE, and the Orange County Sanitation District for an amazing webinar! As a Patron of the #AAEES, #OCSan provides financial support - helping to bring great resources to students, emerging professionals, as well as #BCEE, #BCEEM, #BCES experts. Thanks!

Work hard. Play harder! What to do at 2pm on a random FriYAY? Start up the grill, open a favorite beverage, and enjoy being alive : ) Enjoy life, my friends. Best, Dan

Why smile when push mowing 10 days of growth at noon on a day with a heat warning? I’m remembering with thankfulness, that I live a blessed life, and whether I rise high or sink low, my identity is in the Christ I worship. If you’d like to know more, I’ll listen and pray with you.

Thanks to the #ASEE for an amazing 2025 conference! Montreal was a beautiful host city, and the venue was fantastic (and we're all looking forward to visiting Charlotte in 2026)! Thanks especially to everyone who attended one or more of my presentations.

Join us at 2pm on Wednesday June 25, 2025 in Room 512D for our panel: "Environmental Engineers Solving Problems of Planetary Health." Thanks to ASEE for this opportunity, and thanks to the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists for leadership of the profession.

Headed home after a most wonderful family vacation!

Enjoying Kīlauea this evening.

For his eighth grade graduation gift, Barney told us years ago that he wanted to pay his respects at Pearl Harbor. An excellent choice, and we couldn’t be more proud of him. This Memorial Day, we remember.

Notes like these from amazing students make teaching all the more worthwhile : )

Ten years of a morning routine w/ Sarah Oerther God is good. All the time.

As we celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6-12), I am deeply honored to have been recognized as an advocate for the profession of nursing. Everyone has a story of a nurse who has gone above and beyond in a time of trial. Those stories need to be shared and celebrated.

Happy Earth Day! Looking for scholarship funds to help support a M.S. in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science? Apply to the Environmental Engineering and Science Foundation by May 1, 2025!
