Does the Speaker of the House know what's going on in the country?

It's not clear that he does, as Mike Johnson's communication strategy seems to rely heavily on being unaware. When faced with questions he should be able to answer, he has a reliable response: "I don't know."

Still appalled at how paltry and terrible the NYT coverage of the protests were and how nobody there feels any responsibility to address the criticism. This was not something that caught them off guard. This was many levels of decisions.

I was in Tokyo for Roki Sasaki’s MLB debut. He was such a mess his first warm up pitch sailed 10 feet above the catcher’s head to the backstop.

The raw stuff was always there but he was pitching scared.

What an unbelievable turnaround.

Indicting political opponents & critics because they are political opponents & critics is terrifying.

It's completely inconsistent with the rule of law & democracy.

It should scare everyone - and (hopefully) will get people to realize that we all need to stand against this.

Caroline Kennedy's contribution was useful, but it was also back in January. A more current version (from Caroline Kennedy, her son, et al) would be helpful.

had to read the article to understand wtf was going on here which is that Meta is literally feeding Instagram pictures parents took of their teenage daughters to middle aged men as ads for Threads
“Meta has used back-to-school pictures of schoolgirls to advertise one of its social media platforms to a 37-year-old man, in a move parents described as “outrageous” and “upsetting.”

Meta has 100% stopped even *pretending* not to be astoundingly evil.

Hannah Einbinder at the Emmys backstage:

"It is my obligation as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the state of Israel. Our religion and our culture is such an important and long-standing institution that is really separate to this sort of ethnonationalist state."
