Having spent 30+yrs writing academic books and papers, retirement has given my writing a new lease of life. OK, I've not become a prolific novelist but "Science and Sensibilty" is my 4th general non-fiction book since 2016 and I'm mighty proud thanks to Lutterworth Press @saraband-books.bsky.social

Power is the rock on which truth founders. The mainstream media, with a few exceptions, is a single-issue lobby group, whose purpose is to assert the rights of capital.

I have now been a journalist for 40 years. The forces ranged against my profession have never been so powerful | George Monbiot
Once, I believed that humanity’s problem was an information deficit. Now, I know you can’t speak truth to power if power controls your words, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

There are 20 restaurants & cafes & 9 bars in the House of Commons. These are heavily subsidised - a pint of beer costs £3.50. 9 bars in a place of work seems absurd. The subsidies shield MPs from the reality of the outside world & should be withdrawn immediately. Indeed the bars should be shut.

They told us privatisation would mean
better services at less cost
They told us the more millionaires the better
because wealth would trickle down
The opposite happened
They lied,
and despite having been proved wrong
they're still lying
