The indomitable Shirley Chisholm was born #OTD in 1924.
In 1968, Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress. She represented NY's 12th Congressional District for 7 terms (1969-1983).
Posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.

On September 14, 1874, 1,500 members of the White League—a militia of Confederate veterans opposed to the civil rights goals of Reconstruction—attacked New Orleans and overthrew the Louisiana government.

Last night's event was great, and shout-out to all the awardees for all the jobs that are thankless, tireless, and underappreciated. The Public Defender goes unrecognized. With a third of the prosecutor's office budget, they do thrice the work for advocacy for their clients victimized by the system.

There is a lot that can be said about what is taking place in LA as the collective has gotten tired. In case they forgot nearly forty seven percent of Angelinos have a vested interest in what's being done to their neighbors and loved ones.
