what kills me is that you can easily think like this and still convince tens of thousands of people that YOU'RE the expert in the room actually. memes like "when men are into monsters it's like this, but when WOMEN are it's like THIS" are shooting fish in a barrel. i've seen it go to people's heads

this thinking betrays a binary worldview that is fundamentally incompatible with just and modern ideas of gender. on some level i don't mind that; everybody fucks up sometimes and some people need to be reminded "there are more than two genders" and "assuming someone's a man doesn't make them one"

i say this not to put this friend on blast but because i think the way people talk, you can genuinely get tricked into thinking this behavior and these assumptions are appropriate. we gotta roll back that "kill all men" shit people were doing on social media back in like 2010 or whatever

and like, men don't always have perfect lives. i once witnessed a friend of mine venting about how hard life was, then they said "i wonder how easy life is for cishet people. i'm going to ask" and then ten minutes later "found out cishet people get heart disease and depression too. now i feel bad"

the one that kills me is like "when men are into (hobby, fetish, cuisine, fashion) it's (dishonest, performative, predatory) but when women do it it's fine." i don't know how you think you're coming across to gender-nonconforming people but i assure you you do not look safe in the slightest lol

it gets applied to all kinds of internet fandom slap fights where it's like, i think you have an axe to grind here and you know you can dress it up in bad faith feminism 101 language to launder this. i don't know how people end up deluding themselves into seeing gender essentialism as enlightenment

as long as i'm working through things publicly i feel like generalizing about and then policing the behavior of "men" is like... i'm glad that it doesn't seem to be as healthy a social media grift as it was ten years ago but you still see it every once in a while and i'm so thoroughly done with it

i love when a streamer accidentally pulls up their own stream on their phone and you hear the thing they said ten seconds ago come back in really tinny over the phone speakers. it's like they picked themselves in brawl so they could hear their voice on the wiimote or something
