Even if you are oppressed a thousand times, don't be cruel once. There is also art in being a good person. Art creates art, the artist processes art, and the artist who processes art ultimately affects the other person through himself. Following this chain can only and only bring out the good.

The French translators of Lukács's Aesthetics (Morbois and Fondu) did tremendous work. However, most of the index entries have incorrect page numbers. Seriously, even the original German edition (1963) and the Hungarian and Italian translations from the 1970s got the index numbers right.

In an excellent article, Adrian Blau (@adrianblau.bsky.social) compared the craft of the historian of political thought to detective work.

Seeing the superficial links some researchers establish between texts, "circumstantial evidence" seems a fitting term for certain flawed historical methods.

A quiet renaissance in studies of the young(est) Marx is underway. I’m thinking of C. Barbour's and @mflohr.bsky.social 's close textual readings, coupled with brilliant contextualization, as well as @schuringa.bsky.social 's and T. Khurana's careful conceptual analyses of Marx’s works up to 1844.

Questions to critical theory people:

Has anyone written a history of the concept of "immanent critique/criticism" so far? Which thinker used the term first? Did Horkheimer or Adorno provide a clear definition of it in any of their works?

Happy World Philosophy Day. 😁😁😁
Happy World Philosophy Day! My main philosophy activity today will be reading some work of a PhD student and perhaps reading some of Jameson's book on French Theory later.

The editor's omission of the original bibliographic record for this text by Adorno cost me nearly an hour of frantic searching through Adorno's collected works. Seriously, if you're editing a book that includes texts published elsewhere, please provide detailed information about the original sources
