Whilst I didn't win it was still a huge compliment to be shortlisted for Local Politician of the Year!

Just 8% of the £360m Fishing and Coastal Growth Fund is set to come to Scotland, despite 9% of the value of fish landed in the UK coming through Shetland ports alone.

We need to see the both the UK and Scottish Governments supporting our fishing and seafood sector.

📣 The political space is becoming increasingly hostile, with marginalised women & groups facing widespread sexism & abuse.

Very glad to have had the support from the full council today on improving civility in public life. Signing the @jocoxfoundation.bsky.social pledge has to be meaningful and we have a responsibility to do better.

We are studying today's judgement by the UK Supreme Court.

Nothing they rule will change our solidarity with the trans+ community and with everyone who seeks to live their lives under control of their own bodies, and free from poverty, ignorance or conformity.

Definitely worth taking the time to give this a read. 👇
Absolutely BEGGING the National to be bloody serious and stop flooding Scotland's already paltry polling space with complete and utter rubbish just because it's, presumably, cheap. Pay a proper pollster for goodness' sake. ballotbox.scot/long-read-a-...
Long Read: A Plea for Plausible Polling
Recent FindOutNow polling has been obvious bollocks. Scotland doesn’t get enough polling that we can afford to have complete rubbish distorting our discourse.

I'm very fortunate to be surrounded by some incredible women in leadership roles at Shetland Islands Council.
"What advice would you give to women aspiring to leadership positions in local government❓" That's one of the questions we posed to six women in leadership roles at Shetland Islands Council #localgov #IWD2025 @emmamacdonald👇

Very glad that I get to vote today. Looking forward to having a new member 🗳
Three by-elections today! If Edinburgh has a case of "that's too much voting, actually", Shetland North is the opposite: not enough voting. It was uncontested in 2022, which led to an accidental Labour councillor. They'll get to pick an Independent replacement now. ballotbox.scot/preview-shet...
