Going Home

This cabin is in as beautiful setting as I could ever imagine and is like walking into a dream. In this dream I am finding my way back to where I truly feel I am more at home, in Nature and the Wilderness.

Dawning of a New Day

It's the dawning of a new day at the Columbia Gorge, new beginnings, new hope, new life.

After the Storm

Thunder and lightening rained down on the Seattle area the night before, but all was a calm and beautiful in the morning just before sunrise at the University of Washington Quad where the Cherry Blossoms were in bloom.  University of Washington Cherry Blossoms

Mountain Meadow Bouquet

As much as I like a beautifully arranged bouquet from a good florist, there is nothing like the beauty and organic feel of a naturally arranged mountain meadow bouquet.

Daffodils Under the Tree of Spring's Golden Light

On an early March evening in the Skagit Valley, Spring welcomed me with Daffodils under the Tree of Spring's Golden Light! A chorus of Geese were flying all evening overhead, heading north.

Deception Pass State of Mind

This is looking across the bay on a dark winter day to the Deception Pass bridge. I love the sometimes-dark moods of late Fall and Winter. Far from depressing, I find them inspiring and even uplifting, drawing me in to experience more of the mysteries of nature.

Grand Park One Enchanted Evening

Grand Park reminded me of a great savanna, only this one at the base of Tahoma. At a couple of miles long and about one wide, it is easy to lose oneself in all this beauty and to just merge into the elements.

Winter Forest Light and Mood

Sunlight begin to merge with the foggy mood of a Winter Forest.

Beacons of Light

On this morning at a cloud covered Death Valley, beacons of light lit up small sections of the mountains creating beautiful spot lighting and contrasts of warm and cool light, streaking across the tall peaks and touching the salt sea with spring water below.

Sunrise at Big Cedar Tree

I pass this tree just about every day while walking through the woods close to my home. Somehow it was sparred during the logging of this area years ago. It looks so tall, beautiful and majestic at sunrise, rising above all the other trees of a different generation.

Middle Fork Winter Moods

Snow capped boulders and mossy rocks reach out to the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. Sunlight, clouds and mist pass over Mt. Garfield looming high above the river on a Mid-Winter's day.

Lime Kiln Sunset through the Veil of Madrones

In this image, I featured the Madrones to create this perspective of the Lime Kiln Lighthouse at sunset through the veil of beautiful Madrones. The red/orange bark of the trees came to a luminous life basking in the back lighting of the setting sun.

Lay Me Down to Rest

As I watched the sunset along the Oregon Coast on this day, the largest Sea Stack in this image reminded me of the final resting place for the passing of the Buddha. It is strange what one will see in these sea stacks at the edges of the day. Image 2021

Tree Magic

Certain trees possess magical powers, leaving us in wonder of how they grew into their spaces with such perfect grace and beautiful form. This tree is definitely a magician. We stand witness to a show featuring incredible displays of magic during the afterglow of the setting sun.

Ephemeral

Clouds and fog rise and fall, then slowly crawl through the forest. The sun briefly appears, then disappears, only to reappear once more. The show is transitory, but also seems never to end. This is Nature at peace with itself, playing its timeless game of hide and seek.

Super Pink Moonrise

Happy start of the Lunar New Year, year of the Snake. Just like the snake sheds its skin for new skin, so too should we shed that which needs to go and welcome our new life filled with hope and promise in the new year.

Pacific Northwest Lighthouse Moods

The Heceta Head Lighthouse casts a guiding light into a moody Pacific Northwest morning. I can only imagine the sense of relief voyagers from long ago felt when they caught a glimpse of this lighthouse casting its light in stormy or foggy weather.

Flock of Birds

It is such an exhilarating experience to watch about every hour or so the Skagit Valley Snow Geese gather and take up in flight, make of few spins over the fields, and then all land not much further away from where they started to resume their winter feeding.

Madrone Reaching out to the Bay and Setting Sun

Here is a wonderful memory from 2020. Deception Pass has several remarkable trees with enduring character. Madrone's usually grow close to salt water and their characteristic growth trait is to reach out toward the water and source of light.

Snow Mounds

While heading up the Kendall Lakes snowshoe trail I decided to take a quick water break. Seeing people behind me I stepped up a small incline to get out of there way. This small diversion was just enough for me to notice this scene that I would have otherwise missed. Chance encounter!
