Piper Gilles lost her mom Bonnie eight years ago to glioblastoma.

Bonnie was a figure skating mom to her core, who hosted international skaters at their house.

And Bonnie would cheer wildly at the end of each performance. She’s cheering wildly tonight.

And so joyous. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier basking in their starry night.

“Thank you for seeing us” Paul just said to me when I asked him about this journey that Canada has supported.

A collective holding of breath as Stephen Gogolev’s lace of his skate started to unwind during the performance

He told me just now he became aware of the loose lace about halfway through the program

And then he told me he thought “this isn’t good”. A strong performance nonetheless

What a team.

Such a lovely conversation with these Canadian short track speed skaters who win the country’s first silver medal at the Olympics.

They care deeply about one another. And it helped them in pressure moments today.

They said nothing new to report at this time.

And that the Feb. 9-11 timeframe to make a decision on if they can compete at the Olympics still stands.
