I appreciate that the Guardian is struggling for cash, but I fear they have conflated pawning the family silver with selling their soul, a transaction from which there is no coming back.
Let’s all please remember that the Guardian *did a deal* with OpenAI which they disclose elsewhere on their website but not within the increasing batter of sycophantic propaganda dribble they are masquerading as articles
I imagine it's easier to come to this rather generous conclusion if you have already built a glittering and secure literary career www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

Sometimes we need reminding that things that seem impossible only seem so until someone achieves them.

And when someone achieves, even in an unfamiliar field, it can intrigue, it can instruct, it can inspire.

Jasmin Paris, thankyou for the reminder.

One of the few pieces of advice I offer to anyone new or old to any artform is not to conflate suffering for your art, which is not only unnecessary but often counterproductive, with making the sacrifices that are almost always inevitable when striving for any artistic goal.

"…where irrelevant and senile old folk reminisce about wars in which they did not fight and complain about taxes that they largely don’t pay…"

The full thread is worth a read.
A Take on the Social Media Landscape in 2023.

Twitter is the town square and it’s bustling with bros selling crypto and arguing the merits of DC over Marvel, but you’re visiting the town square amidst an EDL march, and whilst their ire is not aimed directly at you…
