This is a really fascinating method to restore/improve on data that's on analog media.

At the basic level, stacking works by combining adding data from multiple identical sources (like various copies of the same record or laserdisc) and then simply dividing by the number of copies.
For those Nerds interested in the stacking of laserdiscs - since its analog data we can improve it with stacking copies (similar to astrophotography techniques)
Here you can see it rejected 31 frames, also see some frames it got rid of and how it monitors via MSE (Mean Square Error)

thundergolfer.com/blog/aws-us-... I think is a much better outage summary than the one that AWS published. I understand the time pressure AWS was under to get something out, but I found the initial report to be quite baroque and hard to comprehend.

I never doubted that André would have a calm, collected, and reasonable account of what happened. Ruby Central has eroded community trust and we should not let it erode our trust in each other.
The RubyGems “security incident”
Ruby Central posted an extremely concerning “Incident Response Timeline” today, in which they make a number of exaggerated or purely misleading claims. Here’s my effort to set the record straight. First, and most importantly: I was a primary operator of RubyGems.org, securely and successfully, for over ten years. Ruby Central does not accuse me of any harms or damages in their post, in fact stating “we have no evidence to indicate that any RubyGems.org data was copied or retained by unauthorized parties, including Mr. Arko.”

In the original set of photos, the brown buttonhole was done by Hedi Rochowanski, a bespoke tailor based in Vienna. The photos below were taken from Tutto Fatto a Mano. They show how such a buttonhole is made.

When done to the lapel, this adds a bit of flourish and demonstrates the tailor's skill.

the youtube vs yt-dlp arms race is hilarious, because of how lopsided it is.

on the one hand, you've got a company with the GDP of Denmark who has about a manhattan-project's worth of developers they can assign to this.

but on the other end, you've got every bored or annoyed javascript hacker.

- RubyCentral have managed this exceptionally poorly in many ways including removing literally the most active member of the RubyGems organisation by mistake who has declined to return

So China invested in homegrown AI chip production, and caught up in 3 years. Now they are banning buying NVIDIA AI chips.
