Not much to say today just this.

I am a victim of abuse, and I am still being abused.

I am secure and safe for now but I have no safe space to land in, no safe house to go to and so I stay. Mind you this is not about anyone I am living with, I live alone and that's a part of the abuse.

It's the dumbest shit ever. The right thing to do would be restricting property investment and speculation and building more, denser housing, but we know that ain't happening.

Never forget, a simple and small act of kindness can totally make someones day.

Being apathetic or worse, snarky to someone’s genuine happiness about something, can break it.

Be aware, be mindful. Help build each other up (where warranted), and don’t kick or tear each other down.

Cheers! }nwn{

One of the bad-faith appropriations of feminism is the use of suffragist colours by transphobes. President Connolly has reasserted the connection between universal suffrage, Ireland* & supporting the Queer community. Authentic feminism.

Autistic exhaustion is rarely solely about energy.

It’s about compression.

Lack of freedom.

People want moderation. They don't like when it comes for them, but if it makes sense and they see other people getting the same consequence for the same behavior they accept it. It is a hard problem for tech folks because it resists automation, but you can do a lot with just a little human touch.

The insights I had were that you need to explain the rules and how you're enforcing them and accept the culture you have and make changes to the margins rather than try to make a place something it's not. Slate comments are small scale, but it could work for large scale moderation as well.

This was one of the big changes I made when I took over moderation of Slate comments. I successfully managed a shift from a comment section openly at war with the authors and moderators of the site to a comment section that has some rough edges, but is no longer a headache or net negative for Slate.
the choice to never publicly talk about mod decisions (which is common policy of virtually every corporate social media platform) has been catastrophic for the legitimacy of content moderation. users don’t trust/understand policies, forcing them into a necessarily adversarial position towards mods.
Our policy has been not to comment on individual accounts. You end up having to litigate every case in public, and we don’t have the capacity for infinite debates in public.

Then there’s also the consequences such as the increased litigation and bad actors gaming your systems.

The surgery is almost definitely getting delayed at this point; Payment is still due in two weeks.

A lot of other things are not going well right now and everything is severely unstable so I may go back offline from this end for a while
My car was declared a total loss and my top surgery date is in less than 2 months, so I'm just going to put this here again because if I explain the situation any further again I'm honestly going to have another mental breakdown

I have already had several lawyers (former and present) reach out to thank me for my bravery in writing this piece. It's astonishing that stating such an obvious truth (that the judiciary cannot avoid the prejudices of the society it operates within) requires courage at all.
"As someone working in law, it’s heresy to say this, and it might even kill my chances of a career... But as a trans person, and someone fighting for the rights of my community, I refuse to remain silent. To me it just seems obvious: a heavily prejudiced society produces prejudiced institutions."
It’s no surprise that only 31% of trans people trust a legal system built to enforce prejudice, says Jess O’Thomson.
