Parnia Abbasi was a 23-year-old Iranian poet who, along with her whole family, was killed this past June by Israel. I just translated an excerpt of her poem The Dying Star for my book. I have no idea if I'll get to use it in the book, but translating it made me cry, so I'd like to share it with you:

I've been teaching myself both Japanese and GDScript/game development in my free time, and my only regret is I didn't buckle down and REALLY start trying sooner, because it was "too hard."

Further evidence that widespread covid vaccination is better for everybody.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

Following Eurovision’s decision to allow Israel’s participation, Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has withdrawn from the contest. The announcement split the screen between Israel’s performance and scenes of bombardment and starving children in Gaza. #Spain #eurovision #genocide

"Having courage to finish that swim meet or ask for that big raise isn’t like having the courage to be Black in a country that wants us dead."

I love what Dr. Jackson says here. As I write in #TheDoubleTax, the sort of courage Black women need to exist is fundamentally different than white women.
I wrote about Brené Brown and "Courage Culture" over on Substack. Tap in!

"Thus, 'courage culture'...is the white-coded myth-based belief that vulnerability is experienced homogeneously across racial, gender, sexual, class, and ability lines."

In the misty hills of southern China, villagers once whispered of Cat-Rong Po, the “Old Lady with a Cat Face.” With a third eye that peers into children’s hearts, she prowled at night, her crow spies marking the unwary.
In Taiwan, her kin, Tiger-Gu Po, shared the same hunger... 1/2

The people don’t fucking want ICE there. They want their immigrant neighbors there.
In South Minneapolis, Minnesota, nearly two dozen neighbors confronted and surrounded ICE goons after rapid-response alerts were issued. The goons were questioning an East African man when the situation escalated, and they eventually left the area without making any arrests.
