Indeed there were many concerned, hand-wringing articles and X posts about "echo chambers" and how we were depriving ourselves of the wisdom of alternate viewpoints, all of which was easily decoded as I AM IMPORTANT AND HAVE IMPORTANT THOUGHTS WHY WON'T YOU ACKNOWLEDGE ME AND MY IMPORTANTOSITY
back when bluesky was still blowing up, wasn't bsky's self-moderation what the dipshits on the right complained about the most? like, those stupid bastards were actually for-real crying about censorship and suppression of free speech because so many of us blocked them.

HELLO!

Twitter was relentlessly left-coded until Elon took over and EVEN THEN all the same people bellyaching about Bluesky now were bellyaching about Twitter literally up until November 2024 at which point we all decamped and they did their chip replacement.
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

I do appreciate @sodrock.bsky.social hammering this whole bullshit apolitical military stuff. If following the law becomes partisan then either you join the party of the law you are supposed to apolically follow or be forced by the other party to break it

i think a lot about how the collapse of reconstruction was in the event a result of macroeconomic mistakes by republicans--the panic of 1873 leading directly to the corrupt bargain of 1877
i think it's funny how MAGA could have probably run the economy hands off while inflation came down and growth came up and won Gen Z voters but instead are likely going to be associated with moving voters back to the social democratic/democratic socialist Left
the comments to this Fox News article are so fucking funny, man

literally conservative boomers being like "yeah, fuck Gen Z"

For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Jeffries says not to expect Democrats to pursue Hegseth impeachment over boat strikes
"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor," he said.

Honestly, where did this idea that good villains must be right come from? So many of the best villains have incredibly simple and wrong ideologies, they’re just well-realized ones.
the hardest part of writing politically charged fiction is that a good villain needs to be complex, cool and about as right as the protagonist; while evil people in real life are lame, cruel, childish morons motivated by greed or not wanting to look at minorities

Everyone in politics, everyone in media knows what’s happening here: the White House is controlled by a repellant white supremacist who waits with bated breath for any opportunity to run nonwhite people out of America. They know who it is, what he’s doing. But they won’t SAY it.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

Maybe the most 'I am someone the 20th century didn't happen to' post imaginable, in which you think that 'the far right take power' and the consequence is just that after five years, boom that's over but your preferred political outgroup is out of action.
We have to start thinking about what we want Britain to look like in 2034 after the far right have been in power. There will be no status quo to return to. Centrism will be stone cold dead.

if lizza wants my subscription money he should not just burn himself and nuzzi, but every other journalist who knew about this, by name. you’ve already put on the jacket, go ahead and throw a few more charges in it.
yeah it’s bad that Lizza has been sitting on this for so long but also how cursory and inept was that Vox investigation that not only managed to miss the biggest scandal in the history of American political journalism but affirmatively exonerated her bsky.app/profile/bkel...
So the editor of New York Magazine said there was no bias or ethical problems with Olivia's articles?

Does he still think that?

They should retract all of her stories

This is the thing that always inspiried me about the US public higher-ed system. That a country could be so wealthy that it can have schools where people build rocket ships under sports stadiums and somehow these are considered "unprestigious" to elitist snobs

you know, what if they aren't actually a commentary on journalism or the state of media. what if these people are just extremely weird
