my name is Mark/Fitz/Fitzy. I attended UMass Amherst majoring in political science and minoring in philosophy with an interest in anthropology. After a short time in a master's program at UConn, I dropped out and now just do lay intellectual stuff. I like political theory, cultural anthro, + more!
Good tunes for 2025 here. Sims Hardin is a great go-to for punk music.

United States commentators on the more progressive side should temper their cheerleading on European politics. Right wings and nativist forces in social democratic/center left circles exist at high levels, especially right now.

This sounds interesting from Stanford University Press.

I really want to like this piece but I need to wrestle with this idea of tech helping deliberative democracy. Anyway, this piece was still interesting and this citation from Jim Fishkin really sounds like another book on my wishlist.

One of the first craft beer breweries I tried when I turned 21 was Rogue. The local liquor store sold them in my college town. I bought the Dead Guy Ale from Rogue. Sad to see it go in such a way

This is eliminationist, genocidal rhetoric. There’s nothing ambiguous about it. And it didn’t come from a random Bluesky account with 28 followers. It came from a sitting member of Congress.

Remember literally three years ago, when centrist pundits claimed that the trans backlash was really just a wonky debate over the correct medical standards for children?

Fast-forward to today and you have members of Congress calling for ALL trans people to be seized and held incommunicado
Rep. Ronny Jackson calls to forcefully mass institutionalize trans people and calls them a cancer.
