Double Olympian César Lizano is on track for a hat-trick of AGWC victories

My favorite Summer Olympic event is the one traditionally held last, the marathon. My appreciation of the marathon goes back to my time living in Northern Virginia. On the last Sunday of October every year, the Marine Corps Marathon is run through the streets of D.C. and Arlington. It was one of my favorite days of the year. I would run the Marine Corps 10K, swing by Dunkin for a celebratory coffee and donut, and then go cheer on the runners as they passed through the Pentagon City neighborhood.

Munich's mayor celebrated victory in a referendum Sunday on whether the city should bid to host the Olympics. Just over 66% of the votes cast were in favor of an Olympic bid, Munich authorities said....

Over the weekend, my favorite marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon was held in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Marine Corp Marathon Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year, but I will talk more about that later this week. It was also a busy weekend with tons of news and with Olympic hopefuls in competition. Let’s get to it.

Thousands of runners will be taking over the streets of D.C. and Arlington, Virginia, for the 50th Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday.

Life is busy and full of issues that require our attention. Keeping track of Olympic related news is even more difficult. There are 206 recognized National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and around 40 recognized federations with sports in either the Summer or Winter Olympics. Preparations are underway in some form or another for the next five Olympics. It's my hope to use Media Village articles to collect and share news stories related to the Olympics from a variety of sources that may be of interest to others.

Sports have always been integrated into my life. There is a family legend that I “watched” my first baseball game when I was a day old. I played baseball from spring to fall and soccer from late summer to winter. I grew up listening to my dad tell stories about Carlton Fisk’s home run in Game 5 of the 1975 World Series, the 1986 World Series, and the 1980 US Men’s Hockey team.
