Was having a look at this photo of Larry Donovan (celebrity bridge jumper, absolute nut, pals with boxers, big drinker) today too. No reason. Four months after it was taken in 1888 he leaped off Hungerford Bridge, London, on a two quid wager... and lost. He died aged 26 and is buried in Brockley.

Like, something that struck me as I got older is how the fantasy of TNG stopped being about adventure and wound up being the idea of a fulfilling job that you aren't forced to do, where you're respected and surrounded by supportive colleagues and have enough time for hobbies.
