This morning we gathered on McGuinness Blvd.
After a beloved Greenpoint teacher was killed in a crash, the local community thought they had won a transformative redesign of this dangerous road — then the work was halted by City Hall corruption.
As Mayor, I’ll finish the job.

In London and Paris, we’ve experienced vicious backlash to climate action. But we’re not backing down | Sadiq Khan and Anne Hidalgo

Dear Britain, it’s now clear: 20mph zones save lives & don’t slow traffic. Implement them.— @sadiqkhanlondon.bsky.social.
“Despite what detractors might claim, 20mph speed limits haven’t actually made journeys slower because journey times are largely dictated by junction delays, not vehicle speed.”

There is too much bluff and bluster on this subject. Ordinary people just want safe streets for themselves and those they love, and we can achieve that, says London mayor Sadiq Khan

Until 1995, Gdańk’s historic centre was reduced to the function of a corridor, with the main motor traffic flow to Warsaw running directly through the heart of the city. Since then, it has been transformed into an attractive and welcoming pedestrian zone; elevating it to the status of a living room.

Hi @bicycledutch.bsky.social ! @carlosefe.bsky.social told me about this road dip style of speed reduction element in Houten that discourages motorcycles without disturbing cyclists significantly.
Have you heard about this before?
Thanks!

When this person woke up this morning, they didn’t say to themselves:
“I’m going to make my city’s streets safer, air cleaner, traffic lighter, neighborhood quieter, and medical and maintenance bills cheaper.”
Yet they do all of that anyway. Why? The right choice is designed to be the easy choice.

Attention Street Design Nerds! One of the most intriguing cities in recent years at reconsidering streets for people instead of just for cars, Oslo Norway, translated their great Street Design Manual into English and put it on-line. It’s worth digging into. #Oslo

It helps you feel a part of the city, instead of apart from the city.

The Elizabeth Line this year moved more people than the 18 lanes of the 401 freeway, the widest in North America.
Traffic is simply a geometry problem, and adding one more lane won't fix it.

Another moment of significant leadership and achievement by the City of Paris and its inspiring mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social. So many strategic moves it’s hard to keep track — this is what clear urban ambition for a more successful, healthy, livable and sustainable city looks like.
A historic moment: Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo rises to applause as the bioclimatic local urban plan revision PLU is finally adopted by the City Council on November 20, 2024 at 6 p.m. This key document, shaping the city's development and construction rules for years, hadn’t been revised since 2006:
