Night # 2 of using the puntarelle, from the chicory family. I sauteed the cut up puntarelle with dried sour cherries and toasted slivered almonds, finished with sherry vinegar. We loved the bitterness brought out by cooking. Delicata squash and chickpea flour dredged rock fish completed the meal

Today, since it’s relatively cold, at least for California standards, I decided to make kubbah (rice dumpling stuffed with ground beef) in soup, lemony tomato base with onions, turnips, chickpeas and Swiss chard….hit the spot…

Sous vide flank steak. Delicious! A little of the comfy garlic oil, rosemary salt and pepper in the bag. 2 hours at 133. Pan seared. Rested and cut across the grain. With lime cilantro rice and confit garlic (which may look like cloves but are tender and sweet like butter). Yummers.

This is a puntarelle, from the chicory family, like radichio, escarole... I've heard of it but hadn't seen one until today. Locally grown. I'm going to have it three ways, a salad, a saute, and grilled. I'm easily excited. Yum!

A few days ago, I made a big pot of chili. We had a bowl of that one night, then the next night we had chili dogs. I used the last of it at lunch today, to make huevos rancheros - an egg on toast, topped with chili. That finished off all the leftover chili, and it sure was good!
