What’s a beaded pendant without a chain?
Long ago when I first picked up a needle I made a chain for a rosette pendant. The bead soup chain had two strands and was joined in between with leather bits and larger beads. This necklace will have some medicine to it. Grateful to bead. Prayers and peace

Zipper stitch edging reminds me of the lipstick lichen I saw in T’aanuu village. Beading is a daily practice and with it peaceful prayer. I’m grateful for this skill.

After an hour of visioning I added the green circle border. When I first learnt how to bead I had to do circles for a pendant. I was 8 or 9 years old. These memories carry me through the worst and the best days. I’m grateful for this art. Each prayer has centred and calmed me for today.

Beading an hour a day or six. I mean who needs to start learning about Adult Education when beads call you to sit with them. This art form centres me. One bead at a time I unwind as each bead is a prayer. Meegweech to @sweetgrassandseascapes for the kit. Proud to be a UVic Indigenous alumni member.

I’m reminded of my Masters project as I sew vests this week for my partners clan dinner. I was taught that each stitch is a prayer. Upon further examination I’ve concluded that; every stab of the pin is a curse. Life lessons abound in these late night sewing sessions.

In 2019 I was adopted by matriarch Leona(ban) as a daughter. I met her ten and half years ago. We discovered that she was my aunt Connie’s best friend when they were stationed at the Masset Base. Cut my hair as per Anishnaube teachings about respect, love, loss, grief for Mom Lee and her family/clan
